@da wanqsta: It's obvious, the C550 wins the picture contest. I might have to change my sig soon as I plan on getting an N70, can't wait for Aug/September when the K800 is expected.??I'm currently posting usong the newest version of Opera Mini...it's got cool nifty little features but using Opera Mini takes getting used to when I've been spoiled for choice by Opera Mobile.

I really like the N70, but most of them are network locked here...and these handsets are still nigh-on impossible to unlock, just as the 6680, 6630 are.
The sim-free ones are still way too pricey at this stage for my liking; maybe when the N80 etc are widely available, these might drop in price enough to be tempting... at this stage I've restricted myself to a self-imposed monthly limit for gadgets, hobbies et al until all the things needed for our first UK property are in place and taken care of. Priorities at this stage.
Just a quick note, for the ultra-bling-conscious and Ali-G wannabe's, there's a guy on eBay selling brand new gold Nokia 8910i's for £209.99 a pop.
Never new they made this handset in a metallic Midas-Touch hue...
For anyone more concerned about all-out bling looks and titanium casings above specs lists, there are 250 of these available here:

Speaking of gold plated phones. How safe is to walk down the street in London with your bling phone? Compared to Jozi, Cape Town is relatively safe if you take precautions. The N70 is unfortunately Vodafone branded, dunno whether it's network locked.

Although there are occasionally ads on the odd bus stop warning people not to unnecessarily 'advertise' one's phone in public, I've never felt unsafe when on the phone while walking along the streets of London.
In fact, in central London itself, there's so many people on the phone in streets that the thought of someone snatching your phone seems almost abstract at times. Everyone's minding their own business, doing their own thing, as is the norm in public in such a big city...some kind of false sense of security perhaps.
My wife almost had her phone stolen when she was a student at The University of Stellenbosch, when she was nearly assaulted on her way walking back from lectures one evening; her high-pitched screams alerted some other students before the thief had a chance to get her phone. She wasn't 'advertising' the phone,as it was in a bag with her files, and as it was a very short walk to campus, she thought it would be OK.
She learned her lesson about walking along the main street at night by herself; even if it was a short distance. She was lucky that the thief got away with nothing.
Having said all this, my brother-in-law had the Nokia 8310 that the Mrs and I bought him in 2003 stolen out of his bag at a bus stop just down the road here in east London.
Well so he says, anyway. He was quite amazed that he had never had anything stolen from him in SA, but a few weeks after he arrived in London, he had to buy himself another cellphone and simcard...
On top of that, I too had one of my phones nicked here; a 6510 that I had in 2002. This was totally my fault, as I left it lying around where it shouldn't have been.
We all have instances in our lives where we learn lessons the hard way...

Nice choice there, Brix, the N70's a smooth handset indeed. Say goodbye to your current version of Opera, you'll find that Netfront and Symbian Opera rule the roost.
A question- have any of you experienced problems with a phone caused by the magnets in some pouches? My GP mentioned to me that his D500 would cut out when he was receiving a call, would in fact turn off altogether whilst in the process of removing it from said pouch. Now, i've never had this problem myself, but recalled that he'd mentioned it on a previous occasion. His solution was to cut the magnets out of the pouch... Sound familiar to anybody?

I'm expecting mario2002 to chip in at any moment singing the praises of the N70 and Series 60
@Kryptik: I carry my phone in a pouch and seriously haven't had any problems with any magnetic interference.

I think Mario might suggest that you hold out for the soon-to-be-released N80 which he's been on about lately in other forums... , but if you can't wait much longer I guess it'll indeed be the N70 then.
@ Kryptik,
Can't say I have had any magnetic probz either.
@ da brixsta,
Good win by your Pom football team last night over Man City; that second goal by Reyes was fantastic!
So as of last night, Arsenal are 1 point behind Spurs, and Liverpool 1 point behind ManUre; let's see what happens in the final Premiership clashes over the weekend... |

I'm officialy the biggest West Ham support albeit a plastic one.
Spuds don't stand a chance...you're going to see how they mess this one up...all they need is to be held by the Hammers and we're through to the qualifying rounds of the Champions League where exotic locales await Wenger's men...think Poland, Denmark or just plain old Belguim.
I'm planning a trip to Europe around September/October...I might be tempted to hop on over to London and watch a Arsenal in their new stadium.
@da wanqsta: This thing of holding out for soon-to-be-released phones is nonsense...if this goes on you might as well buy a new phone every four months(which some of the posters on Esato actually do)

LOL @ brixster,
I'd think most Gooners would be cheering The Hammers on this weekend; Marlon Harewood has been in fine form of late too.
Looking forward to the FA Cup Final too, even if The Irons are the obvious underdogs.
The new Goonerland looks awesome! If you do decide to stop over for a quick Arsenal home match, you'd have to let me know at your absolute earliest convenience, due to the sheer demand for tickets.
About the 'coming soon' consumers, I've never eagerly counted the days for a specific phone to arrive, or bought a phone when it's immediately become available, due to the very inflated values added on to milk those who want the latest and greatest at any cost every few months.
Even my P900 was out for nearly 4 months before there was a more justifiable contract offer for me to consider; and the same will apply with the P990. Of course it would be great to have one from the outset (and hopefully not too many initial firmware bugs...), but as I've said before, I'm quite a frugal bugger. As much as I enjoy these telephonic marvels, I cannot be like some fellow esato members and spend huge amounts of money on such a frequent basis on all these handsets.
As I've mentioned before, my other interests and hobbies also take up their share of my earnings and thus I've got these fairly clearly defined restrictions as to what I allow myself.
Discipline and self-control are not always the easiest things to master or sustain in this commercially-driven, gadget-saturated world.

A quick SA thread bump here..
A simple 2-step guide to braaing in the UK: (pics courtesy of my Nokia 3230)
1. Ensure that when you do find braai coals that do work well and retain their heat for a decent length of time, buy these in bulk and stock up that shed! (all barbecue items are sold in Spring and Summer only, so stocking up on these seasonal supplies if one contemplates braaing in the colder climes later in the year.):
2. Have a steady, decent-sized gazebo with a good height in the back garden, to ensure that braaing is not too interrupted if the tempremental British weather makes a turn for the worse: (like today...)
(for added safety, ensure flames have simmered completely and coals are ready for braaing prior to dragging braai under gazebo. This should prevent the gazebo transforming into an inferno...)

Sigh, I'm a happy soutie-wanqa.
Right, now where's the Budweiser...(or in Afrikaans, 'Badwater', as Mrs Amawanqa would say.) |

Hammer-Time!!!!
Congrats to West Ham for a well-earned win over Spurs a few minutes ago, even with that missed penalty by Teddy Sheringham.
It didn't matter in the end, and as a result I am currently imagining this thread's creator (and self-confessed Gooner) savouring every moment, with Amstels in abundant supply...
Oh, and Henry was sublime (again) today during Arsenal's victory.
And well done to The Proteas for also climbing the world test rankings after their victory over NZ today. |

LOL@ da wanqsta: Somehow I just knew the Spuds would mess this one up. On the 606 board Spuds fans are blaming David Dein for somehow influencing the ref. The Arsenal result is a good one going into the Champions League final against Barça.
