I'm trying to connect WiFi on my P990i, but my router uses MAC Address Filtering. When I click the MAC Address option in my phone it lists the MAC address as blank, can anyone help on this?

As I am still waiting for my P990, this is based only on general experience with networking, not actual experience with the P990, but:
MAC filtering means your router restricts access based on the MAC addresses of external devices that connect to it. You should therefor enter the MAC address of your P990 in the 'authorized MAC addresses'-list in your router's setup, NOT enter your router's MAC address in the P990.
Your P990's MAC address is probably somewhere on the box the phone came in, or can proably be found in the phone's service menu. |

@Guy H - yes delete the SE COM ports, reboot and try again
@haig & PeterKay - wifi working here okay from day one (using Generic World firmware, latest version)
PeterKay - please try another router (which one are yo using?) as a member at my-symbian found that after his wifi worked on a friend's router it started to work on his as well!

no settings at all! I just used Scan and then connected to my wifi router after entering the hex WEP code

ditto, its really no different from connecting with a pc, or a pocket pc and actually I think the P990 scans quite fast

how do i know and make sure i am only using my wlan to browse the web and not using gprs so I don't get charged. I of course enable wan and connect but how do i know if gprs overrides the connection to the web or not?
i see the wifi icon in the taskbar for sure.
thx.

Firstly, you know when you're on the web when the globe icon flashes. When its shown but greyed out, it signifies the phone is trying to negotiate a connection and it will ask you to choose the account at this point.
When its connected to an account and is live, tap on he globe and it brings up the "connection manager". At this point you can click each of the accounts above the horizontal line (below is logged accounts) and the statistics of each connection should pop up.

You have mentioned about the EU p990i have a different code, limiting or unlimiting it to firmware updates. Does that mean some of the ones expansys sells could not be updated with the latest firmware?
And what is the website for the firmware updates?
I would appreciate it if u can reply to this, Thanx!!

Well based on reports here and elsewhere some countries (including Belgium) seem to have a different CDA meaning they are currently not able to update to the latest firmware as quick as other CDAs. Normally though it is just a case of SE taking a little while to push the update out to all the different CDAs - a process that normally takes a few days.
Now I can't comment for current models supplied by Expansys but mine and everyone else who got their phones a few weeks back have had the same "Generic World" CDA.
As a general rule it is only network branded variants which long term have issues with SEUS updates, and with just about any generic SIM free variant (EU, UK or whatever) you should have no trouble. So I think it would be safe to say you'd be ok with one from Expansys. |

OK guys I got mine early this afternoon after parceline managed to loose our stores delivery for a few days (doh!) First impression is very very nice Only one thing I've found that I dislike - not being able to connect to a hidden ssid via WIFI. Everything else is fine, I've connected to my router which has MAC filtering and also is secured by WPA-PSK Also as others have said, we've got to figure out how to debrand as I want the latest firmware!!!
Edit: With a hidden SSID the P990 does connect. With my home router its fine. My girlfriends its not for some reason! Strange

Well interestingly, while sorting out my bookmarks (SE ones are locked from moving too unfortunately) i noticed that Voda's settings are all stored in the Z:\Private folder.
A proper file manager program should do the trick.

So do you think it would be possible to flash a generic rom by hacking the voda rom?
