There's a load of fake's (Sony Pro-Duo) on ebay, although they still work almost exactly the same... most of the sellers are quite honest, so wouldn't hurt to ask if they were selling fakes. haha |

it should work fine, but you will not be able to take advantage of the high speed aspect because the phone does not support it. |

@locoworks, how do we know it doesn't support high speed?
whereas the P910 white paper specifically said it didn't, I don't see anything in the P990 white paper that says it does, nor anything that says it doesn't
so I'm just wondernig what I have missed that that you might have seen that says this?

Getting my long awaited 990i tomorrow from Vodafone online, BUT, I was shocked to hear from a Voda sales person that even if i'm using my home wi-fi internet connection, I will be charged by Vodafone for the data downloaded, because you cannot use wi-fi without GPRS being on and charging while surfing.
I heard that initial voda sourced 990i's will be unbranded and unlocked thus avoiding this kind of rip off but it looks like I was wrong.
Does anyone know if this is true, or legal and more importantly is there a way to surf for free in a wi-fi hotspot.

that sounds like nonesense to me
wifi and GPRS/3G and independant connections and you cannot be downloading via both at the same time.

Yes and no. If its a commercial hotspot you usually need to subscribe, eg T-mobile or The Cloud or BT Openzone. My favourite local cafe (near where I live in the UK) has free wifi - but you need to find these free hotspots.

thanks for your replies, I hope your all correct.
One of the main reasons i'm getting this phone is because I'de like to surf for free when at my house or a freinds house or at work or wherever there is free wi-fi and I dont have a laptop handy.

In Camberley, the Bonny's Cafe near the Sony Centre (also close to Argos) seems to have a very strong Belkin router nearby. The P990 works well with it, but my old Nokia 9500 always struggled.
