From user reviews I've seen, for example on xda developers and others (sorry don't have any links handy), the X1 only has lags when using panels, and atleast one reviewer stated that if you had only simple panels (ie: not one's that were running active content) that there was no lagginess.
My view is that the idea of active content in panels is ahead of it's time, and hardware is not ready yet for that level of utilisation. For example, you could add active content into Windows desktop as early as Windows 95c (IE4) - but if you did the active desktop would crash often.
If I use panels at all I will not run active content. I will use it more as a big user friendly standby screen - for example to press the panels button (presuming I run the today scrfeen as standby) then one of the 9 most used apps or functions using fingers and without having to carefully poke at the program menu with the tips of my fingers as I do now.
@whybe, regarding car bodies, unless you are in a parallel univers to us, I can promise you modern cars are still made mostly of metal. The plastic you are seeing in accidents is the front and rear bumpers only, which these days are made of polymers, for example thermoplastic olefins (TPOs), polycarbonates, polyesters, polypropylene, polyurethanes, polyamides, or blends of these. Fibre glass and carbon fibre is not commonly used as it is more expensive than the plastics mentioned above.
But car bodies, ie: the quarter panels, roof, doors, bonnets, boots, cowlings etc, and of course the chasis, are made of steel. The only exceptions are some exotic high end sports cars.
I have a fair bit of knowledge in this area since automotive engineering has always been one of my main interests. My other main interests, computers and mobile phones, is a more recent development (showing my age there). I searched google for the names of the plastics, which I admit I didn't know off by heart http://www.plastics-car.com/s[....]cscar/doc.asp?CID=418&DID=1332

Thnx Max for clearing up the car are made up of most fiberglass issue. But maby is his country cars only have bumpers, that could validate his polyer n fiberglass statement!

I was only refering to the outer body in my statements. Of course chassis et. al. are metal. On my 300, front/rear bumpers, trim around the bottom, grill and side mirror housings are plastic/polymer (whatever the term).
Don't try to pawn that idiot award off on me though

I must tell you something, I got Xperia X1 with ROM version 1.02.936.3 date 08/29/08.
My phone is lagging abit when I switch the view of my panels but now this issue becomes more interesting because before I bought this phone I tried it abit in a store.
The panels switching was completely flawless, it went smoothly without any single stutter.
I read a short review of what the author said was close to the final product.
Somwhere (not sure) in the review he mentiones the ROM was dated september.
I have also read that Sony Ericsson (I think it was over at mobile-review.com) have sent Xperia X1 with "non-final" software where the system information shows 256 MB of ram while the final version is suppose to show 384 MB, with the first batch of the unit.
Is this true or not?
Where can I get the latest ROM?
Thanks in advance!
PS. I'm starting to love this phone DS. |

Sorry, I don't quite understand your post. Do you mean its lagging in the beginning (when you tried in the shop) and now it is flawless or the other way around. ?
I've heard two version of story regarding windows mobile, one said that the phone will be significantly faster after a while due to the caching and indexing, and the other version said Windows mobile tends to be slow after long time use once you have more applications.....
I'm confused.... since this will be my first windows mobile phone, I really want to know. |

According to the owner it is a release version, but that was "denounced" as a proto on here! so you tell me I only know that IF the versions in the shops (WHEN provides the networks with one that works!!!) are as poor they wont be selling many IMHO
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

hmm... that's interesting. Do you have any idea what couse the different and what makes you love this phone when its lagging ?
@NitroFan
I wonder, why most of the video review that've been shown look like there are no lagging except when changing the panel orientation (some of them). ?

Ok to my great surprise it doesn't stutter anymore in normal usage (probably never has).
It just stutters abit when you slide the phone and it swtiches to landscape mode while fiddle with your panels. Everything sorted now and my ROM version is also the latest one.
The phone itself is fast in most situations which is really nice.
