Oh no, so SE will intentionally cripple video recording in Sofia to sell another model. Come on SE how many different series do you want to have? Can't we just do with the cyber-shot for all imaging related goodness and the Walkman series for the music buffs.
If it substantially brings down the price then I'm fine with it but if its just a marketing strategy to make more money |

video orientated phone? @bav?
you do know the handycam phone idea is DEAD ages ago.
care to explain a little on this video phone?
Its only natural to save such a spec for a high end UIQ model or even high end non uiq model. |

Erm.... Then why would they do it, if you'd please tell me. I mean, you just wrote "or even a high end non uiq model". Which sofia will be. So, why?

bav >>> a spec to be thought about or a spec to be released this year ... and why would crippling a tech in a phone not make users find out how to enable it. if its there and its just not being used, im more than sure some resourceful ppl will be able to enable it, or a firmware upgrade if the demand is there. IF the phones can do it then it would be possible to enable it ... esp if the software on the phone can handle it. im paying for storage it should be of no consiquence.

Guys,guys,guys...Why are we talking about resolution only?I think that the most important thing is the fps.Just think how good would be the video recording in our K800's only if we had 30 fps!The larger the resolution, the larger will be the video in our pcs!I don't tell you that the resolution isn't important but the most important is a natural motion of video, not just some frames..That's my opinion! What's the use of QVGA or VGA resolution if the only thing we can view are just some frames..?

I find it frustrating to think that Sofia can handle VGA 30 fps video and SE might not offer it on the production model. Sofia will be highend as SE will get, not to mention handycam series is dead and current cybershot cameras offer VGA 30 fps. At least the camera will not be dissapointing... |

Let's hope that the video recording quality will be @30 fps..I don't care too much about resolution..

If the lowly Nokia 6233 announced 1.5 years ago was considered a mid range phone and had VGA video recording at 15 FPS and stereo speakers, then SE should make Sofia at least up to these specs. Mind you the 6233 only had a crappy 2MP camera fixed focus. If you are making a 5MP flagship camera phone, VGA recording is a must. That is too high end of camera specs not to include VGA recording. |

What are you talking about framerate and res are just as important. Res is the size after all.
500 i have it on good authority that it WILL be only 15fps QVGA.
A lot of people on here claim to have seen it and they also claimed Feb announcment then April.
I said ages ago that October would be the release date as that was rubbished and since then its come out that I wasnt far of. Only by a few weeks into September.
Trust me its going to be 15 fps QVGA only.
When i say reserve a higher res for high end phones i mean for example future w and p/m range models. |

Hmm.. Let's see.. If it will only be 15 fps then what good would it do with QVGA recording? Nothing.
Seriously dude, what's this thing with "its come out that I wasnt far of"?? you weren't far off? ooh okay, i'd like your source on that. i'd call that guessing. and i really honestly think you're desperate right now. Earlier today, you PM'ed me about sofia's announcement and those dates - several times actually. I thought you were sure about it and had "good authority" on it, as you call it.
Lastly, why should a phone have better video recording than a cybershot / dedicated camera phone? Not to mention, an m-series phone? give me a break...

Its just a marketing strategy to make more competitors for phones from another brands. IMO

I think that Walkman & Cybershot are just for marketing purposes..If SE was those phones to be at the top, then their effort would be bigger..For example, see Walkman phones..Some phones of Nokia & Samsung are better on music..Tests on Mobile-review say that..W300 for example can't play all those music files that K800 can & doesn't have stereo widening effect & music quality is the same as K800!What's the meaning of buying W300 instead of K800?Just an example of where marketing works or no..
