Although I'm pretty sure it's not, can people who have gotten their handset from O2 confirm that any sim will work in it?

Thanks!
That works, but I have to click the ALT key for it work.
Next time I open the contact list, itīs the same. First ALT key, then a letter.
In standby mode, the keyboard is locked to numbers.

@dainesefreak: Big day today... maybe you can let us know what's in the package (ie 512 Mb or 1Gb m2) and if the handset is locked and/or branded in any way (I personally think they won't have had time to brand the phone, seeing that Orange haven't even started).
I'm now considering buying a handset on another contract (O2, Voda), through another web reseller. I reckon they will use the cashback they would normally offer to subsidise the handset, which will be unlocked. The deals aren't that good at the moment though, so will still try and wait for at least another couple of weeks. Popped into an O2 high street store yesterday (didn't even know it was there before I passed it) and they reckon they will get the handset before the end of the month, but so far no dates yet.

@defiantbeast: Windows Quicktime reported 25 fps, AAC encoded stereo audio for that All About Symbian P1i preview video. QVGA screen size.
@Maratonmannen: I have my contacts on the phone too. I can press and hold onto the number keys for the contacts app to appear as well, and yes it'll default to A no matter which key I press. However, I can just re-press the letter key I wanted to go to and it'll go there without having to scroll through everything as well.
Quick tip: If you want to delete an entry, highlight it (make sure you're already out of the text edit mode) and press on the backspace key. Much faster than tapping More > Delete! Doesn't work in File Manager though... |

That sounds strange. It works for me. But I have to hold one key and contacts opens and then press a letter. But I have to press a numbered key. |

Ive just put a 'orange' sim into my O2 P1 upgrade and can confirm it does work. I assumed it is unlocked as with all my O2 upgrades (8800 Sirocco, N80, K800 etc)
Regarding the memory card, it is a 512mb sandisk one, anyone find that weird?! Surely it should be sony? |

Thanks for the heads up with the O2 handset delboylee.
AFAIK, Sandisk make the SOny ones as well - the P1i isn't the first handset to have a Sandisk *branded* card in the box.

correct, as I recall, the P910 was the first to get sandisk in the box. It came with a 32mb pro duo

Thats normal... I'm sure the actual technology is Sony/Sandisk co-produced.. |

My phone arrived from O2 just before 11.00 am, I've been playing with it whilst on charge since and not had any problems.
I got a 512mb Sandisk card already installed into the handset, desktop charger, usb cable, wall charger, standard wired headset, spare stylus, pouch and usual sony software/manuals.
Messed about with the radio and the TrackID works too. It's going to take sometime to get used to the QWERTY keyboard moving from a K800i. Everything seems to run fairly quickly although I've not hammered the memory with loads of apps running at once. The contacts work ok, as in I type a name and it searches to it. Camera app is slower than the 800i and no AF light but the pictures seem ok, I'll only use it for MMS though as I've got a decent camera.
I'm yet to try the WiFi but I'll let you know. |

3 days with my P1 (it is my first smartphone):
- 1 reboot after scanning for WLAN. worked fine since then.
- Installed tons of apps and games (TomTom, Tube 2, Agile Msg, Lemmings, Divx Player, Dreamconnect, Fring, Another ball, Handy day, Handy Clock, Brothers in Arms) Not a single problem. I can run up to 10 apps without a hitch. Some of them take some time to open but once they're open, everything's fine.
- Setup my Gmail acount, got all my emails without a problem through Home Wifi or GPRS.
- Used Business Card reader, works well.
- The picture quality of the camera could be improved compared to the K800 but it's much better than any HTC device and I believe slightly under N95 (not much of an issue here).
- The touchscreen is great, I can use it to write short messages quite quickly (you need to read the booklet though to be able to draw all characters). I've heard turning the handwriting recognition makes the interface snappier but I haven't tried yet.
- I'm getting used to the keyboard. Many times, I though I hit the wrong key or side of the key and the right letter appears . I guess I just have to do some "faith-typing".
- the battery already last longer after 2 power cycles.
I think that's about it really. The phones looks amazing, feels great and the few bugs reported on Esato are not bothering me at the moment.
All in all, nice buy FOR ME. |

No One To Receive Card Left 31/07/07 14:19
Picked it up this morning
I did have a XDA Mini, but hopefully this will be easier for texting.
I haven't played too much with just did a video call with the misses and put a few contacts on it.
The first text I did, took me 5Mins (Saying "My first text from my new phone")
Keys are hard to get use to as they are duel function (You press one side and it will come up with a 'e' the otherside comes up with a 'r'.
Hope you get yours soon. |

Guys, there are a fair few P1i's on ebay and a lot of them are darned cheap - prices ranging from Ģ309 (BIN) for UK phones.
Should I be careful of buying from these kinda places? They are working out Ģ50 cheaper then Play.com and Ģ60 cheaper than Expansys and Clove. |
