O2 have delayed the release of the P990i to 2 October 2006 for sure but some of their CS people are touting 16 October 2006, as they are waiting for a further firmware upgrade. Not sure how true but anyone know when SE have touted a next release?

I have a Vodafone UK handset and it's making me pull my hair out.

Tried update yesterday, the SEUS software is an unbelievable CPU hog. It has to be due to badly written software or a bug. I do however have a suspicion that it might run the fancy fading graphics it has on CPU using custom code which might explain why.

Anyway, tried the update, said there was none, did it anyway:

Phone:
CXC162037 R5A006

Bluetooth:
CXC162058 R4F01

Organiser:
CXC162036 R3A04

CDA:
CDA162008/91 R2A04 (repeats on the next line . . . wierd)

Vodafone UK branded handset. When will carriers/operators learn not to load their crappy branded software and firmware?

@J273

delete the latest firmware files from your PC from Program Files>Sony Ericsson>Update Service>db>137????>blob_fs

Also delete the SE COM ports, reboot and re-run the update service
Join the 'dots' and see what happens

My response would be "don''t bite the hand that feeds you".

It's well documented in this thread (and others) about the VF branding and SEUS updates for the handsets.

Operators will continue to put their customisation on as they have, amongst other reasons, subsidised your purchase of the handset. It also means that (all) users will have less configuration to do when they take the handset out of the box. The aim is to insert simcard, charge and be good-to-go straightaway. Your purchase of the phone can be counted as an 'acceptance' of their branding i.e. OS and applications. If not... simply buy elsewhere.

Don't you just update with SEUS?

I checked last night and no update available... what exactly are you saying is for download?

2 things to notice:

a) it is faster
b) it did not crash a single time since
c) got more logical EU options during initial boot (before it defaulted to US regional settings)
d) IT NOW WORKS GREAT IN MY BMW M5!!! Phonebook is transferred!

so don't ask me why the bluetooth version did not change; it did change the way bluetooth works with my BMW, finally some SE guy bought a BMW and realized it should be fixed!

you got it to work with your bmw? oh, i am so jealous. after the firmware update, i still can't get it to connect to my X3. i can't convey without using a great deal of profanity how irritated i am by this.

@Marc_SE

Fair enough. I think I was mainly feling frustration at not being able to make my new toy do what I wanted it to. I am well aware that they have subsidised me but I will still do my best to get my phone flashed at a service center as soon as they get the training in the UK.

I wouldn't mind so much if I could get the damn email to work. It just says "Send Recieve Complete" without downloading any headers. Drives me nuts. I have tried the SE Configurator, Vodafone, forums. It is completely eluding me. I feel as though teased by my ephemeral emails. Grrr.

I purchase through Vodafone as that is the network chosen for me by highr powers than myself. And I don't fancy £500 for a handset, even if it is amazing.
