HTC is an ODM. ODM'ing is a common practice in any industry. Don't be foolish to think that because a device has a certain brand name that every component of that device is created by that particular manufacturer.
That HTC is an ODM means that SE has designed the X1 and HTC builds it for them. It doesn't imply anything about the maker of the individual components of the devices they manufacture. I doubt that there is even one company who has made every single component inside a product themselves. Not even IBM, who makes their own processors, have made all the other bits and bobs inside their large servers and mainframes. Disks, adapter cards, memory cards, etc are in most cases made by other companies. Only the heart, the processor, is IBM's own creation, from design to manufacturing.

@ WhyBe
I should have been more specific when mentioning heart... i ment it as hardware since we wer putting so much spot light on plastics/ metal and crap slow x panel with fish clock. OHH NOO i forgot SE is the best i mean sheesh every one knows smartphones are the market rave and ofcouse se's p series smartphone lineup with symbian has nothing on HTC.. (I mean sheesh SE is so good and cant tell no one anything espacially since all this recent positive rep n attention) occured since htc dropped 2 cents in se's downward ball game.) Thats like sayin Sony cant say fks to Ericsson when sony is the reason ericsson has gotten this far. I mean sheesh what is wm6 to symbian. :sigh: ALL hail to WhyBe he is so correct SE cant say anything to HTC, thats the exact reason why they probably have less marketshare then the manufactures of the #2 pencil... I mean come Nokia has 28% marketshare with all their so called crappy phones some of you se fans hate on. Sooner or later you'll open up and really see that se isnt the best and you would switch sooner or later if smart.

Your missing the entire point, the statement I made was towards se (Sony Ericsson)'s contribution to the x1. It's called an se phone but all se have done was make the plastic case and a program that shows wm6 progs as shortcuts... Thats all.. HTC on the other hand have created the acutal phone.... you know the hardware... including the screen, keyboard, and buttons you will be pressing... Stating that i feel the phone should be called an HTC since the heart of the phone was created but HTC. Im sorry that your taking my opinon so seriously. I promise next time when se creates a good phone ill make you feel better by boasting it strengths.
Also just because i like to debate on matters
Plastic Vs Metal. I will be very happy dropping my plastic phones only recieveing a scratch while you can recieve dents that can potentially cripple the hardware inside it.(Happens to people in cars)
First of all, cars have mostly polymer/fiberglass bodies.
If you like debating, then make sure you have a factual basis for your argument(s)
The heart of the phone is the MSM7200a Qualcomm chipset...not made by HTC. Neither is the camera. HTC doesn't make LCD screens either. I could go on.

This all doesn't matter anyways, because HTC has yet to "teach SE a lesson" on premium phone design
Certainly, by now, HTC would have shown SE "how it's done."
Don't be foolish to think that because a device has a certain brand name that every component of that device is created by that particular manufacturer
This is going back to the reason why i said htc design the phone. design dosent alway have to mean immediate apperance.
N cars are also covered in somthing call aluminum.... u know the part of the car thats usually sprayed and gives it its look n design n last time i checked the phone your arguing over is covered in metal perhaps aluminum 2 just like a car but instead of with mostly fiberglass n polymer there somthing call internal components, such as memory, screen, chips, boards, etc ...
Thanks for teaching me that cars bodies are made of mostly fiberglass and polymer. I mean i have seen wrecks with bent up metal and have acutally touched n felt that the body of the car is metal not fiberglass. I mean i would know its fiberglass after touching it from an ich or its structure. I have yet to see fyber glass bend n twist like aluminum body parts.

1) Obviously you have been mistaken badly here.
2) HTC is the ODM manufacturer for SE. The design comes from SE.
3) Do you know what design mean ? Design start with an event called design concept. It includes all the ideas, features, rough sketching, components list including manufacturer decision, all the pcb's drawing and components area and sourcing all the components.
4) The next stage is prototype. normally starts with limited clay model by mechanical design department and at this stage, all the PCBs and other components are fitted into the clay prototype and to be tested by all the electrical and mechanical enginners. At this stage, the prototype software has been written and can be tested by the electrical engineers. Normally the clay model is very limited to be used by the designers.
5) Some sector will have second prototype and at this stage, the proper mechanical body has been made. The electrical designers might change some of the electrical components except the main ICs and some modifications to be made to the pattern to meet the strict SE specifications. Than, all the prototypes will be sent to QA department for testing/evaluation. Any problems during QA must be rectified by the designers before next event can take place.
6) The process continue with pre-TM (pre trial mass pro), TMP (trial mass-pro), PP (Pre-production) until MP (Mass-production). All the stages except PP and MP are belongs to the design department. At each stage, QA judgment is needed in order to go to the next stage. Before PP (before design department transfer the responsibility to Production), an online judgment will be made by all respective department including QA, Design and Production and if it pass the online judgement, the process is transfered to production.
7) Now, the production stage is the responsibility of HTC, but is controlled and verified by SE QA.
- All the steps above are SE reponsibility except for the production. To summarise, the phone is designed by SE and manufatured by HTC. |

Looks nice.
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand... Mediar's Site |

You don't seem to understand what you read, and you are from the UK ffs!.
HTC had nothing to do with the X1 "design", what HTC got is a ODM contract to assemble the handset in their factories.
And why the hell are you so sarcastic and willing to spread your irony?
You got every single bit on your posts so wrong it's ridiculously laughable to read them. Sorry I can't stop laughing at your ignorance.
And when Muhammad-Oli, max_wedge, AbuBasim, WhyBe and MyP910 corrects you and prove you totally wrong, you go to the offense not using any whatsoever facts but again with sarcasm ignorance and irony...
I believe we have seen this "HTC made X1" claim one to many times now.
So I ask you this [so we can end this once and for all since most people are misinformed that the X1 is a device which it apparently is not] can you please provide us with solid information and facts and URL's on what exactly HTC brought to the X1 design and manufacturing process? (And this time without irony and sarcasm) |

i think its fair to say that the touch diamond isn't really a match for the x1! maybe the pro? as a matter of fact i'm wondering wether or not to stick with my p1 and getting a free ps3!
Bit big to carry around those PS3's IMHO
As so few people have actually managed to get their mitts on an X1 yet despite it supposedly being released on the last day of September, surely all this effort would perhaps be better focussed upon Pony Ericsson telling them to get the damn thing into the shops?
BTW at Victoria station in London there is a huge Plasma Screen showing ad's for the X1! and it claims you can link to it via Bluetooth to get product info it did not work for me so no change there good on ya
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

Hi..
I use my old P1i case for the X1. Fits nice... Bought a new one since my girlfriend has the P1i now and I want to keep scratches away from that one too.
Both a case and screen cover was bought at www.skalshop.se (Swedish site)
Quick delivery, ordered tuesday and got the package today.
The p1 case was 60sek and cover around 70-80sek i think. No charge for package or sending!

Hi all,
As Nitro Fan has so well pointed out just what is going on was the X1 not meant to have launched in a few countries on 30th September? So how come only a few people in Sweden have them? this is not a little delay with no information on why this is weeks and counting. Now although it's gone quite again now how come still no Official confirmation from SE of the Ram in the X1 and not some really hard to believe hidden Ram=Vram and 3D acceleration rubbish to explain it?
Where are the launched retail units and how much Ram does it have and why yet again silence from SE it's beginning to look like the P990 all over again.
Marc

Well, they've already officially stated the RAM is 256MB. There's only anecdotal evidence stating otherwise...nothing official.
Why it wasn't shipped worldwide on 9/30... At least the folks in Sweden got theirs. I imagine there are some production issues causing it to not be produced as fast as expected...but I'm guessing though. |

right, there is no confusion about ram. It's 256MB, simple as that. The only reason there is still confusion is because people keep bringing up issue

@Dogmann: said the X1 would ship from the factory September 30th and first batch would be available in some markets shortly after, meaning beginning/mid October.
From what I can see nothing has changed so far on this subject, there are no delays.
About the RAM issue, I'm totally with you on that one.
Also it seems :se still do not believe in their products and therefore yet again do not have enough units available ready to ship OR screwed up with the RAM and is trying to fix this ASAP.
I guess we will find out pretty soon :] |
