That's the way to go. As long as Sony isn't able to deliver decent hardware at midrange price-point (Moto G, Xiaomi Redmi 1s...) concentrating all their resources on high-end segment is the best they could do. |

Focussing on high end will be difficult for them when you have Apple and Samsung pretty much owning that segment.

Finally they came to their senses. Focus on high end. Let go all the others. Z, Z compact, Z ultra, z compact tablet and z tablet. Analyze the market and opt for Windows 9 for tablets (Portable pcs) when it is time. |

I hope they can bounce back, I would be devastated if they closed down their mobile division. |

I think Sony is just too conservative in producing phones. They must put every new tech or improved hardware even its not that huge advancement. Sony is not Apple or Samsung with huge fan base or popularity. Its okay if all consumers are that wise to see the reason why Sony is not putting every new tech. Sony needs to put new or even gimicky things for us. I say quadHD, Software Functions, Snapdragon 805, IR blaster , Superior Stereo speakers etc. They need recognition this time. If they reach Apple or Samsung level then thet can use their strategy but for now. I think they must put every single feature to put their products above others.
Look at LG G3 it was able to grab a huge sale even we think quadHD ad laser af are just too gimicky. Just my opinion. I still believe in Sony. |

The phones are fantastic, especially the latest ones. They need to gain traction with their marketing.

Gone are the days where they had standouts in the low-end and midrange segment. X10 mini, mini and mini pro, Neo, Ray, Active, P, U, and, probably the last standout which Sony deprived of 4.4, SP.
All of their new, non-flagship devices just don't get that much attention since they lost their sense of uniqueness, plus the omnibalance design looks sh*t with those really thick bezels and cheap plastic.

Looks like the start of gangrene but will they amputate or risk sepsis? |

Is Sony's planning to switch from glass design to the metal? I would like to see the Xperia phone with aluminium back cover. |

Exactly.Few pages back we had this discussion of the need of QHD.Yes right now its not a necessity and maybe a gimmick but that doesn't matter.SONY has to do anything & everything to gain mass attention.Apple etc can afford to do this because they have already gained a massive fan base that will only buy Apple even if its an inferior product.SONY doesn't have that liberty..they need to keep doing things to get noticed and get attention and one day they will succeed.

No, Sony needs to streamline its portfolio of smartphones, and have bigger balls when it comes to competitive pricing.
This is what's costing them. Cheap phones are too expensive.
They could do what Apple does, and have their Mid and Low range products filled in by previous iterations of their flagship products. Flagship = Z3 series, Mid range = Z2 series and Low end = Z1 series. Would work a treat in the USA.
This also means releasing a cohesive line of Z-series products, and releasing them only once a year, instead of twice yearly. |

that a also going above and beyond in "borrowing" software features from other venders. Multi screen support hello?! Who gives a shit if they came up with it or not now, its not like everything from Samsung or LG are their own creation, only thing that matters is you got it or not. Thats all people care. Their slow ass attitude has drove them into what they are today and they sure as hell deserves it. Hopefully Kaz guys knows what they are doing in the mobile division and they can dump the current boss for good. |

They won't close down the mobile devices, worst case scenario is selling it to someone.. so according to this they are expected to post ~ $2 billion loss for the fiscal year ending next March

I think that this is the new model of the one used in th 1520/930/Icon which seems to perform very well. If you really think about it Toshiba have been leading the way in mobile imaging since the Nokia N8 shipped 4 years ago.. their sensors have been in the 3 (N8,808,1020) best cameraphones we've seen thus far. The high pixel density stuff was particularly innovative..
It makes sense since that where the bigger margins are.. focusing there is one thing, succeeding.. another story. Everyone wants to be Apple
