My friend at work with the N95 had the earpiece fail on him. I know, because it was me that took it apart and fixed it for him

One thing I've found with all nokia's, their battery covers will fall off eventually. Where I work, there are about 6 people with elastic bands, sticky tape, blue tack etc, trying to keep their battery covers on, if thats not
disgraceful
, i don't know what is?

Actually the only 'good' Nokia that comes to my mind is N78. But I don't want to stray too far from topic

N78, good? No way!
I have one and I regret every moment when I decided to buy it. It`s very noisy, the navi wheel start to peel, the back cover is scratched etc. My Nokia experience is very, very bad.
I want back my SE!!!

yay! got mine today! The slider has a little bit of wobble, but the distance between it and the kaypad is quite large. It looks like it shouldn't get scrathes.

On the flip side, something to consider is the experience I have had. I bought the K850, and it was an absolute disgrace. Software crashes, resets, naff build quality. Then I bought the C905, with self scratching keys, chipping paint, loose slider, losse camera cover etc.

Now, if most phones really are built that well, surely the chance of me getting two duff ones is almost nill? And in all honesty, I know three or four people who owned the K850 and they all had lots of problems with it. And as for the C905, my friend here at work is now on his 3rd handset. I think we need to accept that phones have some of the poorest build quality at the moment, something that needs to be addressed.

As big a fan as I am of , I see far more complaints in recent times about their handsets (and have had much worse experiences myself), then of any others when it comes to general reliability.

yet take my experience, I have owned K700, K750, K800 and W910, all of which have had major complaints in forums, yet all mine have worked perfectly. K700 and K750 joystick failures, K750 firmware complaints that prevented file transfer by cable, K800 erom problems, W910 crashing and restarting all the time, W910 slow interface. Me? Not a one.

If the reported problems with K750 for example were endemic to all models, how come the three K750's I personally have owned all were perfect without any of the reported problems? What's the chance of that?

See, we have to be careful making assumptions based on our own personal experiences because it IS possible that someone can experience a bad batch as well as their friend having a bad run, when the majority of users aren't having problems. Coincidences do happen and it doesn't prove anything.

I'm not saying SE don't have a quality control issues, I believe they do, but I still think the majority of their handsets are well assembled and problem free. The problem is their are a large number of lemons. NOT A MAJORITY though. Just a substantial enough number that it reflects badly on the handsets and bad enough that a few people are unlucky enough to get 2 or 3 faulty handsets in a row.

btw, I don't consider a scratched keypad enough to claim a phone is unreliable. If a handset is replaced due to a scratched keypad well so what? If you want to talk about cosmetics, Nokia are the real culprit. Their phones lose their gloss in the first 6 months while SE phones still look almost new 2 years down the track. Nokia's: paint rubs off, numbers fade, keys peel off, slides get loose and wobbly, screens get scratched, all early on. You can say what you like but I have a lot of experience with handsets (I fix and configure and update handsets for mates and most of my customers) and Nokia are by far the most likely handsets to look like shit after a short amount of time.

I think SE's cosmetically are more durable than most, and as far as hardware and software reliability goes, no worse than Nokia.

Hey I just noticed something. When you open the lens cover, for about 1 second you see a blue light behind it. Also if you do an illumination test in the service menu, you can see it flash.

Yer, nice little touch that. Who knows, we could have a BSOD (Blue Square of Death!)
It looks even better when you launch the camera without opening the lens cover

yer, it does, It uses up about 15p of my credit each time. It uses the same location data technique as the first iphone did. It contacts the cell tower it is connected to, and that cell tower gives the phone its location. The phone then looks up on the internet what satellites are crossing that location currently and downloads a list. This allows the phone to know what satellites to connect to without searching for them.
