Glo 3G is already active, if you're using a 3G nokia phone you'll see the network on your mobile, only that its yet to be activated.

@Dejitella1: Your last post sounded very confusing. If anyone was planning/launching a 3G network in Naija we would've seen/heard it on this thread.

How can a 3G network be active but it still needs to be activated?

If this can be confirmed by other posters on here then good luck with what could be Africa's fourth UMTS network.

Guys, new phones announced yesterday.

"Sony Ericsson today expanded its growing line-up of Walkman phones with the W300, a quad band EDGE clamshell which aims to bring the mobile phone Walkman experience to an even greater market"

"The Sony Ericsson K800 is a dual-mode UMTS handset while K790 is a Tri Band EDGE handset. Both products will be commercially available in Velvet Black and start shipping globally during Q2 2006."

Thats two EDGE enabled phones in one week. Aya, I told you so.

Also announced were the K310 and the K530, all to be available by Q2 2006.

About glo's 3G plans, haven't heard anything about it, but if its true, It'd be great. U go glo!
Aya, any word on this, you seem to be the man about town as regards mobile telephony.

I am yet to pick up any info about a Glo 3G network. But if there's any network with the credibility to set one up, its Glo. They've probably had the most success with GPRS, whereas the others are still struggling to launch the 2.5G network officially.

But if the Glo man said it, I believe it. All we can do at this point is wait.

ROLMAO @ mikkyroy....A month old P800? And no, it can't work with CDMA because it's a totally different technology from GSM which the P800 and other phones from SE use.

@mikky: chances are that your P800 is a refurbished one, but for 20k if its still neat its a good bargain. Like Brix said, the P800 is a gsm phone, and cannot work on a cdma network, and vice versa. has only one cdma phone in its line-up, the T608

SE has stopped developing CDMA phones and are instead concentrating on GSM and UMTS technologies like EDGE and W-CDMA.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea for to make cdma variants of the P910, K750, W550 and T290, afterall the cdma market is rapidly growing and ought not to be ignored.

@Dejitella: MTN's gprs is still running, but I think it is only available to some randomly selected subscribers. I may be wrong, but you can no longer receive OTA settings from 3888 and 4777, and thats the only way to get your gprs activated.

Whats up everyone? the board has been so quiet lately.

MTN has suspended automatic configuration OTA. You have to call customer care and give them your details. Your line will be activated for GPRS within 7 days. That's the official yarn.
