Aya it was from that same link that I was redirected to the wap version which I currently use, and it's called "Yahoo! mobile messenger" Only difference from other messenger apps is that I did not have to download any application to use it. It runs directly from the yahoo wap site. But like I've said before, for some strange reason, only my Glo SIM seems to work with it.

@amby: I see. STupid people at Yahoo! When I saw the carrier drop-down menu and saw only US carriers, I simply browsed elsewhere. Why make all that noise about US-carriers when they know there is really no restriction? Or is there? Their cup of tea.
Incidentally, I never got the WAP messenger thing to work here, even with Glo.

@Mikky: Really? with MTN? I always get the message "error 404 page not found" with both MTN and Vmobile gprs. Weird. |

That should be Vmobile's fault. Their service is primarily WAP, so you need to tweak with the settings some to get any 3rd part apps to work on their WAP service.

@Aya: These are the only EDGE enabled phones I could find.
S710
W600
Z500
W810
Not very many I must add, but I guess we'll be seeing a lot more soon.
@Dejitella: Most Yahoo messenger applications require full web access, but Vmobile only offers wap on its pre-paid plan. Either you subscribe to the post paid package, or you buy an MTN sim. |

@amby: Gee; I only missed out one. We are not likely to see many more soon, contrary to what you think, unless SE has a change of policy.
It is their policy not to give EDGE any considerate amount of attention. Even the upcoming SE superphones, the P990 and W950 are NOT EDGE-enabled. In my opinion, that's a little retrogressive, seeing the trend of networks around the world implementing EDGE. Such a shame, really.
At the moment, Nokia has the EDGE market nicely wrapped up. Moto is not doing bad either. The others are here and there, mostly.

@Seinsho: Your ability to use opera mini on Vmobile, and my ability to browse the web using my phone as a modem with Vmobile gprs, is as a result of someone's ingenuity on this forum. He discovered how to tweak the settings using proxy servers to gain web access, thereby allowing you and I to benefit what we ought not to.
Vmobile does NOT offer full gprs to its pre-paid subscribers, thats why it is called "Vactive WAP" |

YES SIR!!! But 4 ur info, @amby, I didn't follow any tweaking instruction. Here is wat happened: I heard about opera mini 4rm AYA(of course), download it but couldn't get it 2 run(I remember teexl had d same problem), so I deleted it. Later on I read teexl's post about opera mini being great & lovely & blah, blah, blah. So I decided 2 give it another try, downloaded it and VOOALA! It worked,D END! |
