Only Opera now on the P990. You could also try Opera Mini from the Opera web site.

O.K. I have my P990 finally (Switzerland). After having flashed the FW on friday I have played with it over the weekend. The phone is made of a very good quality and it feels very good in the hands. The speed and stability of the device is very dissapointing; menus are slow and the device freezes every once in a while (i guess due to memory problems). WIFI has big issues; I cannot access my internal IMAP-account at home for some reason... strange and annoying. All of that is nothing new for you guys; just wanted confirm everybody elses first impressions with the device.
Waiting for a FW upgrade then... |

Purchased my phone in Singapore about 2 weeks back. The firmware details:
Phone: CXC162037 R5A006
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R4F01
CDA: CDA162007/2 R3A03
I'm having the following problems, and would really appreciate it if you kind folks can try it out to see if it works for you:
SEND BUG
-------------
1. Take a picture (flip open or closed doesn't matter).
2. Hit SEND. (This should transfer you to the messaging window)
3. After that, hit the BACK button (the arrow curving to the left)
4. This will bring you back to the camera page, and the picture you had just taken.
5. Now hit SEND again. The application will crash and return to the main menu page.
SOUND RECORDING
------------------------
Has anyone been able to successfully get sound recorder to record a telephone conversation you're having on the phone? Without a call in progress, the recorder works fine. But when you're having a conversation and decide you want to record it, the system will report an error.
CAMERA ZOOM PROBLEM
------------------------------
Has anyone been able to successfully take sharp and clear pictures when you zoom in to the maximum setting of 250%? My 990i cannot do it at all. I'm lucky if after 15 attempts of taking a picture no more than 6-7 metres away from the subject, the autofocus manages to lock in a clear image. Most of the time, the autofocus presents a clear display picture for a split second, before locking on to a blurred image. All the settings are correct. Autofocus on (Normal), etc. Tried all the various file sizes, etc. Still the same.
The best part is that when I took it to my service provider to get it exchanged, their new replacement unit (with the same firmware), also displayed exactly the same problems. I next went to Sony Ericsson and their phone (which I believe initially had the older R4 firmware, seemed to work fine). They told me to leave the phone behind and they would re-load the firmware. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. So I again asked for their unit which had the older R4 firmware to try. ARRRGH! They had just upgraded their phone too to the new firmware as well (R5), and now that too was behaving exactly the same way.
Can owners of R4 and R5 firmware pleeeease confirm if you guys have the same problem. I'm OK if this is a firmware issue. I can live with that. But I cannot live with a phone that offers zoom capability which doesn't work AT ALL at maximum zoom settings for normal (non-macro) picture taking. Even a $200 camera offers zoom picture taking which actually works.

Hi everyone, my wait is finally coming to an end. The stock is here and I am getting it tonight, but with a "worried heart" hoping this phone will not "bug" me enough to regret and will tide me over 1-2 years before another newer P series. I am getting this 990i because I have waited since before Oct-05 when rumors had been flying around and mostly I need the SMS fonts to be big (getting old) for me to read, not to mention other things like Wi-fi, autofocus 2 megapixel cam, large screen and its a sony-ericsson.
Deep down though i know SE would be bringing out another P-series very soon once all bugs have been ironed out but I cant wait any longer |

Am still concerned if SE will sort this problems with another P-Series model or if it will sort them out with firmware upgrades...
What do you guys think?

I've spoken to a (dutch) Sony Ericsson representative about this, and he claimed there are currently no plans for a succeeding model. He also said SE strives to get the P990 as stable as the P900/P910 within a matter of months, which on one hand sounds good, yet on the other hand sounds ... well, you know.
There's still the question of whether a NL-based representative really knows what's going on up there in Sweden. |

I don't use the Jot hand writting recognition (ie I switched it off), and my P990 is very quick.

They just released the P990 in Saudi Arabia 2 days ago. I found it for the price of $US 854 (674 Euro/ £458). The phone comes with a 1 GB MS Pro Duo.
Do all P990s come with 1 GB?
Just like the M600 which was released a while back over here, there's still no Arabic support. I did find a thread here with tips on how to enable reading Arabic on the M600/P990, but it still doesn't provide a soloution for Arabic input.
I asked if SE will be releasing a P990 with Arabic support, the salesman at Axiom said that they'll definately do so... However he didn't know if this would include a physical Arabic keyboard as opposed to just a software based keyboard.
Anyone know anything about the possibility of an Arabic keyboard? I've never owned a P series phone before, and I tried to find out if there was ever a P910 with an Arabic Keyboard but I couldn't find it in the market. |

Its true though! Stupid $5 handsfree almost killed my 680euro phone! |
