Or it could turn out to be super thick like the Pureview 808 or more making it unpocketable... |

No way it's gonna happen, RX100 sensor is even bigger than 808. If Sony would put that in a mobile that would be an overkill, and it really could beat Pureview 808. But it's Sony we are talking here about, they will probably reduce the sensor size to 1/2,5"... or by some miracle they really use RX100 sensor, but then I'm pretty sure some stupid limitations will occur, like small battery, or no SD card slot with only 8 or 16GB bulit in-memory...
The RX100 sensor is 1", whereas the rumour is a 1/2" for the mobile side of things. 1/4 the size, but it has potential. I mean, the Z already takes pretty good images with a 1/3.06" sensor and not only will these phones have the larger sensor going for them, they could have the new mobile BIONZ processing tech to reduce noise.
As it stands, the Z of course doesn't take photos as clearly and noise free as the Pureview 808, but this new camera should have the potential to either come very close, if not match what the 808 can do.

RX100 is 1/1. One Sony 1/2. So its 1/2 the size of RX100 and not 1/4. Or am I missing something? |

If it just come close to pureview quality it would be fantastic. Im sure sony would deliver this phone in a more stylish and slim form than pureview. And if it on top of it has those spec mentioned it would make for the perfect phone. Just hope it isnt to far away, my xp is getting very old. I'll guess in worst case scenario it could be released in december?

I don't really understand what exactly 1/2" stands for, or 1", it's not a diagonal, so I don't know what it is, that's what happens when You let Americans or British set a standard for image sensor sizes (Yeah, I hate imperial units as they make no sense, see example below)
Anyway, the 1" sensor in RX100 is 13,2x8,8 mm and has an area of 116mm^2. 1/2" sensor would have 6,4x4,8mm with area of 30,7mm^2. 116/30,7 it's practically 4 times smaller. Nokia Purview 808 has 85,3 mm^2 so it's 3 times bigger than what would be it's "killer" 1/2" Sony sensor -_-

Yep, the 808 would have a bigger sensor, but then there's the matter of efficiency. Newer sensors like the Exmor RS can allow in more light, plus if it gets tech like the rumoured mobile BIONZ processor, that should help a LOT in reducing noise levels.
In the end, if Sony can put this camera tech into a phone that's a lot thinner than the Pureview 808 and take images that's nearly on par in terms of sharpness, then that's an amazing achievement. |

Xperia RX = 2H flagship = One Sony.
The 20MP sensor will be used in another parallel flagship device as well ( the one I mentioned earlier, the one for those who loved the SX) and will cost as much or more than Xperia Z.
So we have 3 SD800 devices from Sony. 1 phablet and two parallel flagships.

1/2" is larger than 1/3".
The Xperia Z uses a 1/3.06" sensor for comparison

Hmm.. Now there is conflicting info
zomg said Xperia RX is not a flagship. From his comments im guessing he meant it will be more of a Nokia Pureview 808 type of product

No cause for concern. Just because the RX isn't the flagship doesn't mean the One Sony phone can't use the same camera tech.
I'm hoping he'll clarify some details for us though. |
