Too bad that SE K850i won't have Bluetooth 2.1, only 2.0. But I think I'll buy it if the price is ok

No, you didn't... No matter how big fan of SE I am, this glass cover is a pure bullshit...

he he, of course you right. Sonyericssons top-engineers who have been testing/working with the lens-cover and the protection-glass (for many months), have completley failed.
im convinced that you have tried the glass and everything, and found out that the pic-quality (or whatever) became really bad.............or im a wrong ?

i think the glass is there for a good reason, and will not deteriorate the pic quality, (with fingerprints or not).

I'm sorry but I have to barge in and disagree here.

I am sure finger prints, dusts or scratches will cause quality issue no matter what if it is on the glass. That is a rule of thumb. Something blocking an optic will 100% cause a drop in quality, but for some reason, SE decided that that is something they are willing to have happen in order for another more practical issue they have at had.

Most likely it's more of a benefit outweighs the cons where the differences in quality is not that bad as compared to a more important issue with maybe protection or something, that you can just easily wipe the glass clean to improve image quality, but you can't wipe away a damaged lens/optical system.

But you must remember, there is one big difference in the case of the K850i.

The K850i is only 18mm thick, including the LCD at the back (or front, depending which direction you look at it... damn dual fronts.. lol) when compared to other cameras which have more space to work with.

So in this sense, there is no precedent to compared it to, or a benchmark if you might say.

So maybe the requirement by SE to keep it 18mm thick and have a cover mechanism has lead the engineers to develop this solution?

but please, are you guys for real.
its many "sport" digital cameras who have "glass" in front of the lens (even with optical zoom). my father have this one, works perfect.

( i tested one thing with my k810i just some minutes ago. i pressed my finger on the lens several times, then i took a pic, after that i wiped the prints off and took a new pic, guess what, the pics looks exactley the same on the computer.....straaaaaange !!!!! maybe Sonyericsson and all other big camera brands have right.

Well, maybe that glass is scratch resistant, but it cannot be resistant to fingerprints, dust etc. Camera in a phone is great when you need to take a picture quickly, because your phone is always in your pocket. But with K850 you will have to clean this glass cover first, so where's the advantage?

And that mentioned camera with a glass lens cover... It's not such a problem, because usually you have it in some kind of protective case, not straight in your pocket like a phone.

That is a water proof camera, a totally different concept since the lens is meant to seal inner mechanics. Is Sofia water proof too?!

Try taking in sunlight with finger prints/dirt on the lens and you will see the difference.

Anyway, any rational mind would see that having the lens cover behind the glass doesnt make sense (as it serve no purpose whatsover in protecting the lens) . Unless the "lens cover" is actually the camera shutter. And btw, glass DO scratch no matter how scratch resistant it is.

WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT THE GLASS?

what the f**k, you guys are a buncha idiots, would you rather the shutter in front, so you could complain that it will break too easily? or would you rather no glass so that the shurtter can break in you pocket and have you sensor open all the time? would you like to have NO CAMERA?

do you see how sleek the back of the phone is? how flush it is, even the logo is behind the layer covering the back of the phone.

if a) the only thing you have to complain about is SCRATCH RESISTANT GLASS in front of the lens cover your reaching, and then when you get the phone you can take it off. id rather have the option with, than without.

b) fingerprints, stop eating fried foods, and use a napkin, 2nd how often do you grease up your digicam? do you spend your day getting as much finger smuge in the crevices of devices where it becomes a problem?

get outta here with this nonsense if you have nothing to add about the phone other than bitching about a nice peice of glass then go buy a N95 and have a blast with a slow ass OS where you spend half the battery life waiting for the phone to do something. yea sooooooo much better.

the, phone is ugly w.e but ill get it. shit has the features to throw down with everything else out there today. the w960 i may have to get as well just to f**k with the iphone kids

KEEP THE GLASS, just get those call/hang up buttons the same color as the numerical buttons

Yes, it was released to the world 2 months ago, but I'm prette sure that SE new about it earlier. They could just put the proper chip to the phone, and add Bluetooth 2.1 functionality in one of software updates if they don't have time to work on it now. As You know - 6 months is quite a long time in electronics.

Of course they knew about it. But it won't become commercial till later this year. Around the end of the year, if I'm not mistaking.

@ my ninja

Couldn't agree any more my friend, although I'm sure you will change your mind about the asthetics once you get it in your hand.

Fingerprints are pretty much a non-issue when it takes one second to wipe the lens, are you guys seriously worried about fingerprints on the glass?
