Hey peeps. It took me about 2 hrs to download the new R9 firmware, nothing wrong with my connection though, I think the server was really slow. But it was worth every single second. The highest startup memory I had was 17.4 mb which is about 2 mb more than the previous firmware. That means the ppl at SE did something wonderful with the phone's memory management, and I noticed the phone's not as RAM hungry anymore especially when you close apps, more memory blocks are reclaimed. I would say the phone's finally a stable piece of engineering. No crashes so far and evidently faster. Never thought they'd ever make it this stable, but then again, I'd have to wait and test it for at least a week, maybe then I'll share a more accurate view of my findings

well there are two ways you can format you memory card, one is to plug your fone into your computer with your memory card in it, then right click on the memory card drive in my computer and click format, or you can do it in file manager directly from your fone>

I tried doing it with file manager directly on the phone but that has not helped stability.

Q: Does formatting the memory stick make the P990 more stable?

Problem alert! PLEASE HELP

i've started updating the firmware: it detected a p990i Generic World 2 phone. prompted me to start and took me 3 hours almost to reach 20%.

Then the unexpected happened, the server was said to have gone off and the phone update stopped. Said firmware update failed.

I tried to open the phone and a flashing light of about .5 seconds goes on and on and on...

i guess the phone's screwed!

tried to update the firmware again, and it goes to a new screen where there's a desktop computer and the update goes to a mobile phone. Reaches 17% and restarts the update.

this goes on and on and on....

any help guys, im really kicking sony's ass for this!

I am badgering O2 daily.

"They" are apparently also chasing this update, and it will be released "shortly".
I moaned about the fact that we wont know when. They said they'd inform me, so I'll let you guys & girls know too..... once I've installed the new update and confirmed it's there.

I have received the response from O2...

ps ~ I love the comment "If you upgrade to this version, you won't experience any more problems."

I heard that it is possible for you to bring the phone to the Service Centres and they can flash to Generic for you... at least in Singapore and Malaysia, so it must be possible elsewhere. I have not done it myself, but very tempted to since the firmware for /8 is so far behind.

@chakrawal, welcome to Esato

unfortunately you'll just have to try once a day until it becomes available as SE don't tell us this info

Has anyone had any luck with an Orange branded P990 yet?
