If glo has 5million subs, what about MTN, Mtel and Vmobile? Someone should pls tell us the real statistics for all the operators in Nija.
I would also like to switch to CDMA but waiting till the free GPRS is over before switching. |

@mikky: But they are. I see Starcomms sales people on the roads regularly handing out fliers and explaining to people. Multilinks recently did something similar.
And I am convinced that people are already buying the idea en masse. 80 per cent of people on my contacts list now have non-GSM lines (both mobile and fixed). Yes; most still have their GSM lines, but now use them so infrequently. |

@Coola: Sorry about your cousin. I just came back fom my father-inlaw's burial[the old man was hospitalised all through our marriage ceremonies and passed on 3 days after our marriage].
With respect to CDMA/GSM choice: Most of my contacts are still on GSM and glo's postpaid still remains cost- effective for voice and data. I can't stop praising opera mini: it has drastically reduced my gprs bills.

Yeah, sorry Brymm. Na so we see am. Now that they are alive, I try to say and do things to my folks that show:
1) I love them
2) I honour them
3) I care for them.
I want to make sure I have no regrets of "what I should have said/done" when they finally exit this phase of life.
One blessing is that my Dad's still earns more than his kids... Army Officer pension! So there is no money pressure for us. |

Aya, do u know what the total capacity of all the PTO's operating cdma technology in Lagos is? if 50% of those of us on gsm crossover to mobile cdma, can they support us all? bearing in mind that the more the no. of subscribers the lower the call quality on cdma. do u think the cc personnel of these pto's can cope?

@amby: Excellent question there. No way can the existing capacity of the CDMA players take care of that number.
But if there is a sudden rush for CDMA mobile, at a point existing capacity will be exhausted and the CDMA guys will simply stop taking new subscribers for a time, while they upgrade. Note that at that point they can see that there is a viable demand, plus their income is already boosted because of the rush.
Its similar to what happened with the GSM boys when they first came in. They underestimated the market and so did not have enough capacity either. This led to network congestion, blal bla, and at different times they had to suspend taking in new subscribers while they increased their capacity.
If the CDMA mobile guys see enough demand, they have something to work with. Even foreign investment is not likely to be such a problem. |

@Amby 50% moving over? I don't even see that happening. I see "MTN Fixed Wireless" and "V-FixedWireless".
When I was in Lagos in November 2005, I was impressed at the ubiquity of the Startcomms box with many Commercial Phone Operators. And the 10 bucks /min was soooo cool. It is not like that in Abuja.
Even though Intercellular gives you a free line, NOBODY knows about it because they don't advertise it! Plus... only Cellcom offers any internet service.... if U are ready to take the 12am-6am time slot.
My point: our dear CDMA folks are pathetic marketers.
I see the Big 3 GSM networks coming in and taking over the whole Fixed Wireless show.... again. |

@coola: I don't see that happening. the gsm big boys are too busy making money to be interested in fixed wireless. look at globacom that was licenced as sno. they haven't bothered with Fw since inception |
