Following my earlier post of some the issues with my Black C905; this morning I have no earpiece volume; yes I can hear nothing.
Great for a phone, caller can hear me though. I suspect Ericsson have gone way downhill. I wish I had kept my trusted K800 which gave much better pictures and no red eye. So anyone else found they can't hear anything suddenly for no reason. I have the latest firmware R1BA042 so it is not that it must be a major design component fault. Ericsson say they haven't heard about it. So all you readers have you had this issue or know how to fix it? Suggest we all go Samsung maybe?
It happened 32 days after purchase so I have to send it 'for repair'
£450 worth of goods with a lousy design, scratching numbers, red eye and no earpiece only on speaker. Good phone hey ?
After 5 years with Ericsson this has to be the worst phone this C905 black.
Sorry to hear that your phone is a dud, but it makes me laugh when people claim that the k800i was/is a more solid phone then a c905. Does no one remember that bad EROM that would cause perfectly fine k800i's to die? Only way to fix it was through DaVinci or Wotan, as SEUS did not update the EROM, that problem was more troubling and more prevalent then any cosmetic imperfections that the c905 may have. The k800i also restarted quite often when it came out, the c905 is 10 times as solid as that phone software wise and the build quality on mine is super. |

I guess I've now got an explanation to why I can't stream over WiFi (3G works fine).
From SE support:
"Telefonen kan endast streama via RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) som används på bland annat m.youtube.com . För att detta ska fungera att streama via en router måste routern i fråga ha stöd för detta protokoll för att det ska fungera."
And in English:
"The phone can only stream via RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol), which is used e.g. at m.youtube.com. To have the possibility to stream via a router, the router must have support for this protocol to make it work." |

Therein lies the problem. The build quality seems radically different from one handset to the next.
The build quality on SE's last two flagship Cybershot models are as bad as they have ever been. I agree the software in previous phones has been especially problematic (the EROM is a good example of that) and SE got it right with the C905 (although less credit because the underlying OS isn't radically different from previous A200 handsets whereas the jump from K750 to K800 and K800 to K850 was far greater) but the build quality on this slider has to be questioned.
I have had two C905's and both could be tighter with regards to the slider. The first one was horrendous, massive amounts of wobble on the slider and a loose camera shutter which kept triggering the camera (I won't even mention the screen problem). My second is better but the slider still has slight give to it which you can feel when opening and closing (similar to how HTC Vox handsets were loose on the slider).
Software-wise, SE have got it just about right on this one but their build quality still has to be questioned!

I've still go my eye on a bronze version but the build quality seems highly inconsistent on these initial models.
I'm gonna rehouse my K850i and wait a bit longer I think

Having read all the horrendous negativity here I might have to hold on to my W890i a little bit longer.

I have now owned 3 c905's in order to resell them, I tested all of them and none of them have had any of the scratching issues, the slider is a little wobbly as is just about any slider I ever tested, but I'm not so sure that this is a "build quality" issue, it's just designed that way. Most of these issues really do not seem to be that big of a deal and I'm not sure of how prevalent they are. As an aside I recently bought a Canon camcorder, Canon is know for great build quality, but my camera had a loose screw or something metal that would bounce around inside the damn thing, causing the camera to shut off and behave erratically if it touched something it should not have on the inside. Needless to say I replaced it for another unit which works flawlessly.
I bought the p800i when it came out, the keypad flap would crack and the paint would chip off and the battery cover would creak on EACH AND EVERY p800i, that was questionable build quality, I think the c905 is solid. |

@Bialynia
So to sum it all up, the following haven't happened to your C905s:
- Wobbly lens cover
- Dead earpiece
- Scratched keypads
What retailer did you get your 3 Shiho's from?

None of those issues was present on them, I got all of them from Popular Electronics in Chicago: http://www.popularelect.com/
Overseas Electronics (next door to Popular Electronics) gets SE phones from the same distribution channel as well, I might just call them today and ask if they have had any returns because of a wobbly lens cover, dead earpiece or scratched keypads, granted they only allow for exchanges within 3 days but who knows.

To be honest I don't really mind these negative aspects of the phone's build since they're pretty minor; all my SE phones have shown how much worse they can get But I'm just kinda surprised that with the last flagship phones (K850 and now C905), a lot of people here report that they have also experienced such problems. Well, I guess seeing is believing in this case.

6-7 phones it's not that much on a forum the size of esato, and that doesn't meen that all C905 have those faults |

True, I guess it just makes you more wary. I don't think there has been even a fraction of the amount of complaints we had with the K850i when that was launched.

Well at least two of my locals have got a dead earpiece, but the rest of them are very satisfied with C905. My only qualm is that the software is actually not much of an improvement over my trusty C702, although the hardware seems to be a lot better.
