 | If the specs of N82 is true,it will be worser than n73 vs k800 story. well,so far se hasn't lived up to my expectations yet this year.
It seems this is the year of clones yet..

 | 'i doubt Sharp or Olympus have the production capacity to serve them), i'm not confident that the pic quality on N8x will be any better than N95 (w/o xenon)'
 Interesting point.....you'd think
would have asked Sharp for help with cam modules(903/904SH 3mp, 2/3xOptical, great module size, too), but no.....
Considering they share development(OS for example), it's surprising....

Japan is lucky.....Nokia can't cut it there(or is it Japanese don't fall for it??)...

 | they only shared the OS platform adn middle ware, only for NTT DoCoMo phones (not forCDMA 2000 1x/EVDO phones for AU KDDI, or any other phones outside Japan)
sensors are completely different (sony and sonyericsson are different companies)

sony will manufacture the 5MP sensors for themselves

Nokia failed in japan because they have no idea how the market works there, and their phones are not cutting edge enough too. a phone like n95 will only sell if it's as big as E65, given the low resolution of screen, poor java function (comparing to the new FOMA phones that runs 10MB java games), lack of DMB, slowGPS (and lack of 3D GPS), slow OS and average camera. that's comparing to the highend japanese phones, of course the N95 is GOD outside japan.

 | Enlightening; thankyou! 10mb Java?? Makes our 2mb stack limit suck!
BTW, there's an N95 sitting next to me...
....I'd say it's good, but by NO means GOD(God-like specs, admittedly, but in reality......seems a lesson not learned from N80(Batt, slide mech., cam)).....so i'm selling it.....
And I'd STILL rather have SO903i(in black, NOT TV version), even 904SH....

 | @xumdeo
So if Sony are going to make the 5.0mp sensors themselves, won't the graphics processing need to take a serious hike up too?

And if it does, will this mean that Euro / Asian phones will, eventually, be as capable as the Japanese phones?

 @Aware

I know where you're coming from. The SO903i would answer all my prayers.

 | catching up with japanese phones, we've been talking about that for years, that's not gonna happen unlessEuropeans suddenly decide to be less price elastic, and to adopt new technologies quicker |

 | I thought was because companies like Fujitsu, who make the chipsets, didn't want to fall behind in the Japanese market by devoting their resources to ramping up capacity to satisfy a global demand.
 Thats what I read anyway.

 | yes, and why would they forgo this biz opportunity? obviously it's unattractive
 why is it unattractive?
cuz people are not willing to pay for what they're best at doing: high end fashion phones that complements the network service (seriously, a lot of the features require the network to make changes, timed-schedule-auto-recording of DMB TV programs according to the e-timetable, banking/credit card service, music subscription service etc)

at least not enough people are willing to pay, so they won't open customer service centers just for that 1/100000 person
