No, actually I think we need a much more thorough answer pertaining to the Sec.App. which is confusing many here as it seems.
So 1. is this app installed by SMP ?
2. if not, was it always there, BUT why diddn't it show up before?
I think after we see a clear answer to this from Cellphonesoft, many will understand better...

Lisa, haha, forgive me for my ignorance. If I may just indulge myself for a bit, my impression is that the SecurityApp is a component of the UIQ3 or Sony Ericsson software? I, however, am uncertain whether this was a recent artifact of the later R6E28 firmware, or simply just the newer version of Swiss Manager revealing something that was already there (I upgraded to R6E28 and installed the newer SM version at the same time - so I have no sure way of knowing myself).
I have not read much about Symbian/UIQ3 development yet, only perused through the UIQ3 Getting Started guide and a little bit of the SE UIQ3 Porting Guidelines. C++ is one of my weaker languages, unfortunately haha.
I hope my question didn't come off as lazy, as I realize the value in reading documentation. My question was more just out of curiosity more than anything else. The tasks appearing in SM that do not appear in the built-in task-manager have obvious mappings to components of the phone that we as end-users interact with. The SecurityApp, however, does not. Hence, I think it is valid that end-users who may or may not have technical knowledge about the Symbian operating system and/or UIQ3 will question what it is when it suddenly appears to them.
I don't mind reading more about it if there is a document about it. Would it be on the UIQ3 site? Or is this a general Symbian component?
EDIT:
In response to aqualung, I did originally perform a search, but don't recall seeing anything about what the functionality of it is. I performed a search just now just to check again. So from what I gather from Lisa's original post, it's a firmware component. Was the purpose already discussed? I will check again... man, I'll feel so stupid if I find the answer haha.

Again, I apologize for this whole ordeal... I get frustrated myself when people ask commonly answered questions.

Nice tip.... but I could not find any answer from Cellphonesoft there

@rxcash and michael, glad you are a step closer to an answer.
I don't pretend to a very deep knowledge of the UIQ OS, (that's Lisa's job!), the above link pretty much sums up what we need to know about the mysterious Security App (a FW process, not from CPS!)
If the phone inactivity lock is enabled and the Sec App is killed or level 3 memory reclaim is used, only a reboot will enable one to use the phone again.
Glad you guys didn't get too ruffled by my post above - apologies for the somewhat abrupt tone, my resistance has been lowered by the spate of thoughtless, vapid posts on esato recently (especially the symbian threads) !
Sec App is one of several hidden processes that SMP can 'see' if you set it to, and kill to free extra RAM (The other one is Connection Manager).
Previously one had to click through a few menus to do this.
In a nice design touch, SMP 1.6 now presents these two as default options when starting, for an instant extra MB or 2 of RAM.

help please, the swiss manager pro icon in FC mode becomes blank (a white space is shown), in FO the swiss manager pro cannot be accessed, the task manager says it is in use but nothing happens when i tap it... a restart will solve my problem, but i want to know why this thing happens so that i can prevent it, its the second time it has happened, thanks in advance
btw, i'm using swiss manager pro 1.5... would an upgrade solve my problem? tnx

Haha, yah, I already was under the assumption that it wasn't from CPS. Was more just curious about what it does. But chock it up to laziness that I searched for "SecurityApp," didn't find any information, and then asked, rather than trying variations of the search, such as "Security App" haha!
Wasn't ruffled by what you said, I understand where you're coming from. I'm sometimes one to get frustrated when people don't read before posting too, so naturally, I'm slightly embarrassed!
Maybe I should give SMP a whirl. I'm only using the free version, which doesn't allow me to close the SecurityApp. If the link above describes its exclusive functionality, then I don't really make use of the SecurityApp myself. |

SMPro is a superb piece of software.
Couldn't use my phone without it.
And it's nice to see RAM go from 14.1 to 15.3 MB on bootup....

Mine climbs up fm 14.9 to 16.4 on startup (without smp), but I agree that it is a nice piece of software and a must-have for p990 users.

Now imagine it would climb over 17(!) if you would have a firmware that sets 61MB RAM aside!
In any case, I have the same MB when doing a reformat/reset. BUT when I am done installing all my applications then that amount shrinks drastically.
So if someone states, I have so and so much RAM.... yeah well, and HOW MUCH APPS do you have installed with that....!!!
