VisualHub, iSquints big brother is excellent, although not free ($23). I use it for pretty much all my video encoding, no matter what format. |

I currently use FFMPEG as it does alot, iv e wanted to see what visualhub though but just not got around to it yet..
What ive found is that with parallels encoding is soo much faster like to encode a film Using nero recode takes 20 mins...

Ok guys I've have some spare cash and I wanna finally join all this mac fun .
But I've just bought a 40" Bravia and I would really like to use that as the screen. So that gives me two options. Mac Mini or AppleTV
What I want to know in short is the AppleTV worth the £200 or is it just really a gimick?
The Mini is £200 is it worth the extra?

Well, first of all the AppleTV isn't a Mac...you can't run Mac apps on it or Mac OS X. It's a media 'hub' for playing audio & video streamed from iTunes on other Macs/PCs.
So, if you want some Mac fun the Mac mini is your best bet, plus you can plug that into your TV and navigate your media with Front Row or a third-party app, and the supplied remote control.
The Mac mini was last updated on September 06, 2006 - so, based on the frequency of previous updates, it's due for a revamp fairly soon. I'd suggest holding off until the next update.

Jools,
you got any idea about my safari problem?
no amtter what im doing, safari will just freeze every now and then and its most annoying to say the least.
the only way to unfreeze it to iopen activity monitor and quit, i was told to run disc utils on my HDD.. so did that i try and verify my hdd and it says:
Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Mac OSX needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
any ideas??
cheers

To connect 2 Macs together you just run an Ethernet cable between the two, directly or via a Router. Or you can even use a Firewire cable and have ethernet over firewire.
Safari crashes can be caused by old or incompatible plugins. Check for SIMBL plugins in your Application Support folder or the Library/Safari folder (both the main on and your users one). AcidSearch for instance, may have got corrupted.
Or it could be another plugin which are stored in Library/Internet Plug-Ins |
