@bengalboy, another question. Have you tried playing any mp4 movies not captured by the phone? If so what is the playback like compared to the P910i? is it smoother and better in fullscreen mode?
If you have not tried a movie, please try one and let us know what it's like?

Yes, I tried playing movies encoded with PVAuthor and SmartMovie .... my unit will not load them returning a "corrupt file" error. I don't think that at this time my firmware or maybe UIQ 3.0 will accept anything not specifically coded for this OS. The embedded movie plays very smoothly and looks great like they always do... but even it does not play in full resolution. So, I can't really test the movie portion of it at this time...although I have taken photos of the "Gone Fishing" movie playing on the P990 in both regular and full screen modes.....
As for TomTom... I hope that they developer offers a free upgrade for current owners...but ...... I can tell you that I am being told that there will be no backward-compatability with the new UIQ 3.0 OS and the old UIQ applications. Good New is ...... its more Powerful and Graphical so a new TomTom will probably be much easier to look at as well as more fun to use on the Beautiful Screen!! |

Any news on the possibilty of A2DP BT 2.0, so we can stream our mp3's from the P990 to a stereo BT headset?

I believe that the Bluetooth Stereo profile is supported... I don't have any bluetooth stereo headphones at this time, but, the Media Player has a drop down box for "Transfer Sound" from handset to bluetooth...so I would say that is a very strong indication that the profile is present on my P990i.. Great News!! |

i had a look at the bengalboy preview.
my comments on it? its pathetic.
(as are most of the bengalboy reviews)
u get the chance to tell the world how amazing this phone is, and yet all u can come up with are photos of ugly (probably Russian)(cheap a*s) chics and.. a few UI pics of the phone at the end.
what about Wi-Fi ? this is probably one of the greatest features of this phone ? but does it have good coverage? is the battery drain to high ? does it connect easily to hot spots ???
what about 3G ? do video calls look good on it ?
games ? how do they look on the screen ? do they run smoothly ?
excel and pdf files? is the compatibility good? are they easy to see on the screen ?
video. whats the quality of the recorded videos ?
anyways. next time just make the review smaller, and have more quality info in it. i dont wanna scroll through 20 different images of the P990 compared to the crappy Qtek.
i wanna find out details about this phone and i wanna know if it is what SE claims it to be. |

What a DumbAss!! I come on here off my site and answer some questions for the supporters of Esato because I like the site for SE... and I take some questions and use those to further my review.
Just to confirm my evaluation of you is a "DumbASS" is based on objective criteria...
1. You insult me and my site. There are plenty of other sites to visit including Esato where you have a different format.... I choose to do my site differently because its not a pure "phone based" site and it never will be. Why would a person insult you first and then ask for your help in answering his questions?? Because he's a DumbASS!! It usually goes in reverse order..... you want something from me, I don't give it to you, and then you insult me because you've got nothing to lose...
2. You obviously haven't read the material or you would know that its a review in progress. Not completed, wasn't even originally intended to be a complete review but I decided to take questions from people at Esato who are into SE phones and use them to proceed through my review... one of which,,, "WiFi" has already been answered along with most of your questions in addition to a tutorial on how to setup your P990i's WiFi connection when you receive it. Are you Blind?? No, your a DumbASS who can't wait to fire off an insult before he actually reads the material he is criticizing....
3. Your insult has just closed my discussion about this phone on this site because I can deal with DumbASSes Like you on My Site... But I don't have control over this one... Whether that makes a difference to you or not is probably moot..... but whether it makes you popular with the other Members of esato who were interested is probably of more importance and just proves in conclusion what a "REAL DUMBASS YOU ARE!!" |

I can not believe Tazmania's post.... I am gobsmacked....
Bengalboy has introduced us to some of the P990 features that we were unfamilar with... screen shots that I personally had not seen anywhere else....and in a time where everywhere else has been silent on P990 news...Bengalboy's preview has been welcomed by me and I guess everyone who has interests in this SE....
All I wish to add is thanks Bengalboy for your time over the festive period...

hehe, remember gentleman (and I dont use that sparingly), about what I said about Bengalboy getting the devices FIRST. And putting them through their paces and giving us first hand knowledge about them before others (including those that use it for 20mins tops at the CES type shows or announcements).
I remember Bengalboy had the Motorola MPx (yes the one that never made it to full production due to firmware issues, or contractual issues) BEFORE, sorry MONTHS before ANY tradeshow it ever appeared in in all the world. Dont believe me SEARCH the internet you'll find out; that is unless loosers that the site where he had 2000+ posts in less than 4 days, of questions asking anything under the sun.
Bengalboy, enjoys cellular convergence devices & cellphones just like the rest of us! He gets them, usually first, not only because he has the cash, but because by nature & profession HE CAN BE TRUSTED. A true man who's word is his bond, something very few immitations of men can attest to no-a-days.
@Bengal you point 2 above, was slightly off yet on. It seems that "tazmania" skimmed through your sites thread looking for what he was needing info on but missed the importance of the question he asked about WiFi and didnt realize what he was asking. I know you reside in the USA and I dont expect you to be able to test 3G as the band on the P990i is only for 2100Mhz Euro band, and NOT the 1900Mhz 3G that Cingular had rolled out. This doesnt make your review any less adequate. In fact it allows you to concentrate more on GPRS & WiFi abilities for those of use whom would rather use it.
@tazmania; you comment about the nationality of the women in the pictures posted on Bengalboys' site is nothing short of Racist! Plain and simple. If I was a Mod I'd give you a warning and a BAN of 24hrs for first offence! But I'm guessing the Mods didnt miss this, and allowed other like myself to infer or assume - just low enough to your level - that you must've been emotionally hurt, shamed, or just plainly dumped by a hot beautiful, possibly intelligent Russian women in your past so that we could laugh. Regardless of my race, I dont stand for any racism coming from NE1! I give a notice of how I dont appreciate it and I may not be alone in this regard. I can forgive, but when its there, its a long road to correction to get rid of it.
I suggest not listening to others pointing this out to you ... but watching the movie CRASH!
Sorry for off topic everyone. Bengalboy stated clearly that this was a PREVIEW on his sight. I believe his is the first to describe JUST how to remove the phone keypad, and screenshots of how WiFi is setup and works.
As I said before, gentleman, looks like for more information we must check daily on Bengalboys' site. Remember this thread was dead for 3+ weeks with very few posts asking mundane questions, with no concrete answers. Just remember Bengalboy has not 1 but 2 prototypes that actually work, so now we know how long & the care that SE takes in preparing their products before official launch. |

Thought that I'd share a good place to pick up the P990, as I'm shopping for mine now. (Looks like the P990 is a worthy successor to the P910, although I suspect that the best look is as belgalboy has shared: topless.) I got my P910 a couple of years ago from MPTelecom.de, and they were one of the few that had the device available, they have the P990 available to order now at a reasonable price, and they are wonderfully customer-friendly (they assisted me in purchasing a Euro-spec P910 and ensured that I received my VAT back, since I was ordering outside fo the EU). I can strongly recommend them from what I've read (all positive) and my own experience.
