I agree with you about MP. Though I would add that as important as the lens is the quality of the sensor which is crap in every single cellphone (though some are much better than others)
I think that there is no reason an intelligent technically competent person should be any worse than SE engineers at understanding the requirements of camera drivers (or acoustics for tha matter - the other great area of improvement over SE stock drivers).
It comes down to the amount of time and man hours, which is always a premium in any manufacturer's budget. SE do the most reliable job they can given the human resources they can commit to the task - so they aim for good but not excellent cam drivers. And the fact is, in my view, while custom drivers improve the functionality much more over the original (such as manual focus and other cool tricks), the actual performance of stock drivers is quite adequate. For example check this flickr site, cryptia, who uses a completely stock K800 to achieve incredible results:

She does post work, but the base image she uses stands as a fantastic image in it's own right.

It seems that sometimes firmware updates can also fix certain issues with camera units. Not sure about this though because SE never release their changelogs and prefer to keep us blind.
@max_wedge
Gonna check that site soon. I could be getting a cheap K800 just for the fun of it

Is there an IM client for the C905 that will let me know when I have received a new message from contact while it is running in the background? I have tried ebuddy and IM+ and even Oranges MSN Messenger but none seem to do this |

Any clues how to disassemble this one? Got my hands on one that has been in a waterfilled sink
Everything works except '*' and '9' after being baked in the oven at 60 degrees celsius for 10 hours. |

Yeah your right!!! I have just 'upgraded' from a good trusty k800i. I never got results like that although I never updated my firmware. Wish I had now.
Anyway you showing me these images has spurred me on. It is sunny outside in London and I have nothing better to do.
Do Sony put in a half arsed effort into their proper cameras? |

Look for a few pages back, there are some complete comments on the driver's performance. I myself couldn't really comment on it

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the shutter sound?
With A2 Uploader I can delete files, but I prefer to rename the files. |

You can turn off the shutter sound in the camera settings menu. No need to mod it. |

I'm going mad.
How the f**k do you get m.youtube.com to work on the C905? It worked once, and has never worked again. Just buffering 0% all the time. It worked fine on my K810i, so what's going on?

Yup. But it would be good to be able to turn the "focus sound" off also, without having to set the phone to mute mode.

Are you talking about over GRPS (mobile network) or your home wifi?
