mizzle, raiderski has made a custom cam driver for the c905 and it sharpens the pictures a lot without changing any settings, its funny how SE can't make the best drivers for their own phones!

SE aim for more rounded failsafe camdrivers. Camdrvier developers outside SE are aiming to increase performance but instability can be introduced. So SE keep the drivers well below that threshold.

However, the K850i was probably the most unstable phone SE have ever made, and the images it produced were strongly below average. I've seen alot of great images come from the k850i with custom cam drivers now.
I havn't had 1 inncident with raiderski's driver too

The K850 was unstable because it was the first phone (along with the W910) on the new software platform. Now, it has had many updates and is probably as stable as any other handset.

In fact, with the newest camdrivers, I'd say the K850 is quite a bargain if you can pick one up cheap (and they will be cheap because most users probably didn't know you could do a firmware update!).

It isn't a bad phone. You even get used to the keys and the touch-sensitive buttons after a short while.

Mate, I know, I had that phone for about about a year.
There are plently of good points about the phone, and some bad one too. The cam drivers were never good, ever, I could always find a dev that made one that was sharper and less noise than SE ever. I had the last update for that and it improved things alot, no BROD, no restarts. However, the k850i is not a quick phone, that was the major downfall for me.

And how do you find the Raiderski-cam.driver? Have you tested it in various settings and situations?

True JM, however no amount of updates will stop it looking like a plastic coffin for an action man

Raiderski's cam driver is brilliant, sharper pictures without changing setting, however, I have 2 nags:
1. I had to find a computer (my win7 one) that had never had anti-virus on it as I did not want to uninstall it from any of my other machines, this is really a problem with a2 uploader, however, it is the only thing that can get stuff onto your phone
2. Night landscape needs a lot improving, the shutter speed has been made very slow, you will always get a blury picture if you take it with you hands

Do you mean that the night landscape setting has gotten a bit worse with Raiderskis firmware? Because it was hard to get good shots (not blurry) with the former firmwares too.

If you use AVG you can give permission to A2 Uploader to run from the antivirus' console.

I didn't touched it, really

BTW. in Night Landscape scene exposure time can reach 1s in very low-light conditions. in better light it should be much faster

sorry to accuse raider, SE's fault then, cause I tried to take a picture of the sky as dusk (good strong light, clouds had turned an incredible blue colour) but taking in night landscape was pretty hard, so i autoed it up and the photo fixed it down.
@ Raider, for your next release, something that someone pointed out to me, could when macro is on or a large face is detected (close up) could you set the phone to use the LED flash, that could make the world of difference in some photos!

I am on my second C905 (first had a fault) and both seem to tinge the skin with an orange / brown on flash photos.

I'm not saying that the custom cam drivers are unstable, many aren't such as raiderski's. But many are. All I'm saying is that SE has left a much larger margin for error than custom developers. Raiderski and other developers generally develop drivers until they have instability and then back off just a little until the instability goes away. Whereas SE will back off quite a bit more just to make sure.

Besides, as good as custom camdrivers are they have never fixed the worst faults of the K850 - the purple tinging or the pink reds. So the worst faults of the K850 come down to sensor aberations and nothing can be done about that.

You've got to realise that while Raiderski and all the other developers, who can copy and improve eachothers work, are quite a much larger force than that committed buy SE to cam driver development in the short time they have to get the phone to market, given all the other considerations they also have to commit human resources to.

Don't forget you are talking about Sony the image and audio specialists and ground breakers for decades now. Surely they (should) have more skills than the force of everyone else. Although I suppose it is not such a bad thing in this day and age that we ourselves (me not included) can improve upon the software they provide.

One half of me thinks "this is only a goddam phone" the other "why does it display abnormalities which can be improved with software updates"

I do think that Sony cut corners a little when releasing such devices. We all know MP's sell cameras and now cameraphones and the more clued up amoungst us know that MP's mean nothing.

Soon I hope these manufacturers release a proper decent cameraphone. A phone and a camera in one. It is all in the lens not the MP's.

It will come soon.
