That's exactly where i'm trying to get.
They put 11 guys on the penalty area and score in the only chance they've got.
Is that playin' football? Is that the kind of football that people like?
It's just like the Italians' "cattenacio": defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend and then put a ball on the other area to score.
Like i said the best game of the tournament was England vs. Portugal (it would be a great final).
A great attacking game. Two teams trying to score a goal in every opportunity they created.

But just because a game is fun to watch does not mean wheter someone deserves someting or not.
England hardly attacked well in the portugal game. They constantly just kicked the ball upfield hoping for it to land at owen or vassell's feet. 9 times of ten it went straight to a portugese defender. The other time they were just tackled.
Portugal completly out played england, and they deserved their win.
Even though you might say this about portugal - greece, I say that Greece deserve the result because of the tournament they played as a whole. Beating the host nation on the opening night, beating the champions. They were one of the underdogs of the tournament, but kept their nerve and beat the host nation again.
Theres nothing wrong with being defensive, if it works, why not play that way. It's cleary working for the greeks. They have a great defense, and a great keeper

Krub...i agree with mixin in this one...although i don´t like their style, i recognize much merit in the greeks...the players have talent they hardly miss a pass.
And they play very very good with the weapons they have.
Our main problem was the lack of a forward in good form...Pauleta was awfull...if we had someone like Charisteas in the attack last night...well...

Yeah put the blame on Pauleta, like everyone did on Rui Costa and Simão in the first game. Bah!

I really wouldn't be blaming your forwards... I'm still suspecting your keeper ain't upto much. Very very bad postitioning when the greece goal went in.. and (sorry to bring this up again) he wasn't in the best position when mr sol campbell's goal was disallowed, even if he was slightly impeded.

I agree with you about the keepers positioning.
What was he doing behind 4 guys? (two greeks, two portuguese)
But maybe it was the defender's fault by not getting in front of Chariteas and make the cut.
All of them had their share of guilt.
Maybe Ronaldo missed two good opportunities. Maybe, maybe, maybe...
All of this just to say that's noones fault and everyone's fault...
[EDIT]
Thread's 500th post!

Don't deserve it? OK, now let me put you in your place. Who do you think deserved it, Portugal. Maybe, but they only lost to one team, TWICE. Do you think France is a bad team? Be honest, the Czech Rep. was your secret favorite. Beat them too. Well, we tied Spain, FIFAs number three. It is a different style of football that you may not understand. Have you seen so many world class players become almost non-existant. Some of them twice, in their homeland when they were going to win it. To be honest, I am happy that Portugal beat out everybody else but Greece. But to say that it is not deserved, well I could give you all kinds of "firsts" that the Greeks accomplished. Show some respect, you are becoming a bitter loser. That is not what the game is about.

Easy ride?
Well we've beaten Russia, Spain, ENGLAND, Holland... that's not much of an easy ride, is it? Well, maybe, the game with England...
Now about if Greece deserved to win check the stats from UEFA site.
I accept their victory, but i don't accept that they deserved it |

I've never moaned at all, only you have presumed i moaned.
Portugal did have an easy ride to the final stages. They played in a group with 3 other teams who've never really won any major tournaments, or consistently reached the final knockout stages in any major tournaments.
Russia and Spain, are good well balanced teams but not exactly in the same league as teams like France, England and the old German teams before they lost all their good players to old age. Thats the problem Holland also have right now, they've also lost many of their better players due to age and time. So, in the group Portugal were in, they didnt really have to work hard to progress. Portugal should have beaten Greece easily in the first game, but since they have no good strikers such as Rooney, Henry, or Van Nistelrooy they simply couldnt get through the Greek defence.
Then came their quarter final against England. Against England, ive said many times, Portugal played how they always play, a good solid game of football. Unfortunately, as Portugal does not have a very good line up of skilled players, it took them 83 panic-striken minutes to score against an English team playing extremely negatively, compared to how they'd normally play.
Look at how England responded to Portugals goal, we scored again, but it was disallowed. Then after Portugal scored in extra time, England responded again and scored another. I find it quite reassuring that even on the back foot, we managed to open up the Portugese defence with such ease to score twice whilst playing so poorly, whether one of the goals was disallowed or not.
In the semi final against Holland, Portugal had another easy game. Holland hardly ever looked threatening until the final 10 minutes when Portugal scored an own goal.
In the final, i knew Greece would win. I said it would we end to end action, but Greece actually played defensively and made sure Portugal couldnt score. The Greek defence put up so much resistance against Portugals attempts to score it left the Portugese panicking again - thats why they started to dive for free kicks and penalties.
Greece did deserve to win, they had to play better teams than Portugal did in their campaign. Like it or lump it, accept it or not, dont be a poor loser.
BTW, i thought you'd just like to know, the last time England played Greece, it was back in 2001 for the world cup qualifier. Greece, had the same manager Otto Rehhagel.

I'll repeat myself:
I ACCEPT THAT GREECE WON, AND I'VE ALREADY CONGRATULATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand it but I don't like the kind of game that Greece plays!

Reassuring knowing that Portugal spent 120 minutes of football trying to beat an England team having a poor performance, with a prejudiced referee trying to sway the game in your favour and still have to resort to penalties ?
Tell me, do you honestly believe that when a game goes to penalties that its a fair way of judging which team deserves to win ?
Portugese people seem easily reassured !

Ummm.... I didn't realise England were that 'powerful' - we haven't won anything for ages! I'm quite flattered people see England as the team to beat
I hope that means we're overdue winning something!

Etaab, you were outplayed and outclassed, and the ref decision was correct according to international football rules. Those facts were recognized by the international press. Now, tell me please what the f... are you talking about? its because people like you that i want portugal to get into englands group in the next wc, and make you fac your arrogance...again. We would like to do it also in the olimpics, but it seems powerfull (this is etaabs opinion) england didnt qualify. This mes

Just like you called all English 'scum' the day after they lost, and quickly edited your post as you realised how childish and offensive it was.
Shortly after the game, several international referees were interviewed by the English media, and they all said Urs Meirs made the wrong decision, the goal should have been allowed. Since we cant go back in time, theres nothing anyone can do about it, therefore no point in talking about it now.
Outplayed and outclassed ? sure, if you think so
