Interesting.
It eliminates the bigger gap between pixels, the main issue on Quadbayer.

i hope sony addresses the overheating issue. not sure why it went from addressing this and allowing phones to record 4K for basically until your SD card is full.
xperia 1 has overheating issues, which is really disappointing. i hope the successor addresses this issue. how can they market it as the ultimate mobile video recording phone when it overheats after 10 minutes of use? no good.

I hope they cover most or all cam bump.
For example , s11+ will pass 1 cm when you count camera.
Last year leaks started in early october.
Almost mid december and nothing.

They used copper cooling pipes before anyone else, then they moved to graphite layer with the xzp but X1 seems to have skipped any cooling. Either they got confident about the socs or they just didn't have money or time to use one. You know X1 was rushed, could be the reason. If x1ii is indeed 10mm I'm sure they'll implement some way of cooling.
Seems like all sd865 phones will be larger than their predecessors due to separate modem and 5g antennas. Sony probably decided to go bigger in the z axis. Ambient flow could make a slight come back to hide the cams but should be subtle and make room for a bigger battery. I agree about s11+ it looks unsightly. |

If I am not wrong, X1 keeps same 55Mbps when doing 4K HDR.
While XZ2 drops to almost half.
2016 phones dont have pipes
Is mmWave the reason Sony still does not have 5G?
I think so far phones are just sub-6GHz.
@PPl Looks like imx686 has this tech , of article you posted. It has been added to it on wiki page.

They played with a 5g prototype the whole year. I'm sure they'll do it right. Xzp was used by qualcomm to showcase gbit download.
2016 Xperia also suffered from overheating.
I don't trust Wikipedia. Info there is not always reliable. But if it's true, it's good news. At least for Xiaomi fans 🙄
The floating apps were called small apps. After split screen I don't know how useful it would be. Maybe it's for the upcoming foldable or a new tablet. |

Imx686 has new tech and it is far ahead of isocell counterpart.
If they make the 108MP with this tech, everybody will drop Samsung and come to Sony.
Can we please have "10.1" = 3600 mAh/ SD712/ 64MP 1/1.7 , "9.1" = IP68/HDR screen/ SD765/ 4000mAh/ 64MP 1/1.7 and "L4" = P35/ 3430mAh/ 48MP ???? |

Sigh. Sony working for others to flourish.
If x1m2 has 1/1.7" main, x10+M2 definitely won't have imx686. Like I said before, I'd be surprised if they use the old 48mp even. |

Mobiles from Sony are a hobby, they don't care. Making custom sensors is big money for them and a bigger priority. The truth is that accomplished phones like Xperia 1 and 5 didn't sell so there is little reason to continue. This is probably my last Sony because I can see them totally cutting off support by the end of the year. Even if they make the greatest phone in history, it means nothing if it doesn't translate to sales. |

But this is a circle - make great phone - can't sell - make less great phone - sells even less - make even less great phone - and so on. They can't expect to sell with less effort. Success requires consistency even if you don't sell for now you have to keep it up to build up your base. Half hearted products won't go anywhere.
5 phones a year must be nothing for Sony. They can cut that even further for better products and they don't even have to use custom sensors. Generic sensors others use are in some ways better. I don't think 1 or 5 will be cut off in one year, xz1 was in unique position.
And lastly if you want sales you have to advertise but Sony can't even use the free hype machine for their own benefit. Initial price and availability issues are also hurting them |

Of course they are not going back to 40 mi units/year.
But efforts can help stabilize between 5 - 6 mi. |

I believe after being really (finally) pulled into Sony division they will come fierce. Look at the battery capacity. Together with 5g I predict its time they turn the tide. Raging , innovative and creative commercials coming soon. |

Look at X8. Midrange back to glass body and IP68.
Maybe it is a sign of a more agressive aproach like M series.
Except battery and audio, M5 could rival Z2/Z3 in many aspects.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻, be 1/1.5" RGB + 1/1.5" mono ... At least 18MP each.
BONUS : I am 😱 to see PA admitts iphone takes yellowish photos. Looks like they will use same stuff Sony brought with XZ.
