picked up my iPhone at lunch time and so far so good except while settings it up I had a phone call and I could hardly hear the caller (my wife).

I got her shouting and screaming her lungs out down the phone before I realised the protective platic was covering the earpiece

mind you, she was not amused as she was sitting in the car outside my daughters school with lots of parents looking at her (bit of a jerry mcguire moment by the sounds of it!)

No way i did exactly the same thing when i got mine, glad to know i wasn't the only one. Hope you enjoy it the interface is simply beautiful and safari is a dream, very efficient. Hopefully with future updates it will get better and better as i do miss certain things but it isn't that much of a big deal yet.

One thing i was wondering is there any chance to somehow transfer txt messages to my mac? I know i can keep them on the phone but some are private and i'd rather not have to delete them. Would be nice if you could sync them back and forth somehow like with music and pictures.

For the SMS backup, you can try mobilesyncbrowser or iphonedrive.

I read on a mobile phone forensic forum that an unlisted update within firmware v.1.1.3 is the ability to store ALOT more SMS messages than the previous 1000(ish) limit.

Thanks does the handset have to be jailbroken to use those though? As i'd rather not tamper with it.

OK. I'm going to do it. Gonna sell my Vario III and buy an iPhone. BUT i will need some help to unlock it in order to run my tmobile sim on it... and be able to get the net on it too!

I'm not in the slightest but IT literate so will need an absolute idiots guide... or alternatively, a very nice person in London prepared to help me?

Thanks

Not AFAIK. MSB parses data out of the backup files on your Mac. iPD just accesses your iPhone when it's connected.

I'm loving it so far. It won't replace my TyTN II as a data phone, but it has replaced my M600 (as I recently sold my P1) as my main calling phone with a few extras.

I'm running t-mobile on it now and the only thing I can't do so far is youtube as it requires EDGE or a wifi connection and there is no wifi near my office so I'll have to wait until I get home for that. Safari, pop email and gmail all work fine.

Masseur, I was led to believe that if the phone has been unlocked you can surf anywhere you wish. Or have i been misled?

AFAIK, inputting the correct APN settings for the simcard you've inserted (into an unlocked/activated) iPhone will allow browsing. The YouTube issue is because Masseur doesn't have an EDGE or WiFi connection.

Are you in London then? I might be able to help you out (although TBH, it's quite easy to do). Have a look at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=655

Are there restrictions on it if it is not unlocked?

Also what tariffs are people on who are using unlocked iPhones, do people make use of the web browsing?

I fancy one but don't fancy the 18 month £35 a month tariff that comes with it, also thinking the phone you get on upgrade almost pays for your iPhone and you can get a decent data package and have the same functionality as you would have otherwise.

Is it true that the new ones from the US cannot be unlocked? How is the 16gb one looking for unlocking?

Thanks

so, youtube won't work on wifi either. I get about 3 or 4 seconds of play then a message, usually "cannot connect to youtube"

googling suggests a few fixes but I'd prefer to get feedback here for what is the best fix (please)?
