My view? I tend to stay neutral on these kinds of things, as both sides usually have very good points. There's usually no right or wrong in these kinds of things, no one is 100% in the right or 100% in the wrong.

So you don't have a view on whether it's 100% right or 100% wrong to threaten to kill someone?

Oh, and have you actually read your sig. lately, Sammy? [addsig]

I don't.

I'm sure the cartoon is in at least poor taste, if not totally offensive, but it's not an abuse of free speech. [addsig]

@absinthebri, yeah it is an abuse of free speech...

quote From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

'The right to freedom of expression is not considered unlimited; governments may still prohibit certain damaging types of expressions. Under international law, restrictions on free speech are required to comport with a strict three part test: they must be provided by law, pursue an aim recognized as legitimate, and be necessary (i.e., proportionate) for the accomplishment of that aim......'

What exactly was the aim of the cartoon? after discussing this i can understand why it offended so many and i do truely believe it should not of been published...

Lee, which part of international law do you think the cartoons contravene? [addsig]

@absinthe - yes it obviously is 100% wrong to threaten to or to kill someone, though I don't think this situation is black and white. In fact, there are very few that are.

Freedom of speech can be abused, people need to use their common sense as to what to say and what's best left unsaid.

And the response by a small minority (which of course is what gets reported widely in the media) is just pathetic and petty to be honest, giving a whole religion a bad name.

Oops, let's go round again, starting that circle again!

The question is what is the aim of the RESTRICTION of free speech.

So are you saying it's "obviously 100% wrong" or are you not?

@sammy, be it a small minority or not, the media will report it. Why should they not? They report it because it happens. To say that the western media is biased is totally untrue imho. And remember! I'm not a westerner.

So you think it's okay to threaten people?

And I'm not even counting the people who have been killed... [addsig]

A threat is a threat... nothing more...

I suggest you go count! And also have a look on which side of the fence the victims were from!
