I don't know if this is a known issue but it certainly is at my Carphone Warehouse - there seems to be a problem with the speaker in some handsets i.e when you answer a call you hear nothing/or make a call and you hear nothing.

Mine worked fine to begin with but then this happened, the phone wasn't knocked in any way. I have now learnt that a lot of C905's have been brough back becuase of that problem.

I didn't purchase my C905 from my local Carphone Warehouse either mine was from a Carphone Warehouse in London.

I just thought I would mention this.

Apart from that it's an excellent phone.

I have just to day returned my phone because of low noise in the earspeaker, and when people said certain sounds, anything with S, it hissed.Hard to explain actually It seemed to be missing some bas when i was talking to people. But here im not getting a new one before they have checked it. Sucks, so its gone for a few weeks.....

Well I'm not so bothered about the Orange Branding on my handset now, the geotagging works brilliantly, I was out in the dark last night trying the cam and the gps worked flawlessly both tagging and tracking using Amaze.

From what I've heard the Shozu App is better for uploading photos to Flickr, Picasa, etc than the SE blog functions, I am still a bit annoyed about the lack of being able to view where my Geo-Tags are for with Google Maps but fingers crossed they will resolve this, also hopefully they will sort out that fact the downloaded Google Maps doesn't seem to recognise the GPS.

Hi. I too had a c905 from Orange. After a few hours I realised functions were missing and things were amiss. As you say the googlemaps one downloads does not work with geotagging and the option on the photo's to 'view on map' is missing on the orange firmware. As is WayFinder. Also all those bloomin orangeworld apps and sites that are pointless and do not work with wifi I'd had enough.

During the same time I was looking for a good way to unlock and debrand my old phone (before this fantastic upgrade) a k810i I passed on to my gf who is on o2. Things all started clicking into place a day ago when I decided to pay davinciteam £8.50 to debrand my phone to the generic R1BA042 firmware, I was convinced after reading through the end of this thread and discovering that this fixes the battery charge (which I hadn't come across only having had the phone for a day) and the GPS (which I hadn't played with yet as it meant going out into the awful weather) so it really made sense since Orange will probably take months to upgrade from the stone age firmware they installed onto the phone. As soon as I switched it on again from debranding (a harmless and simple enough process) I instantly experienced the phone as SonyE intended, it was quick, crisp and everything was there.. photos had the 'view on map' option. WayFinder (demo) was there and all that orange junk was nowhere to be seen. This is now becoming my phone.

So I took a while to patch and debrand the k810i for my gf which went well after hours of messing about with simox's patcher and setool. It took ages cos I'd messed it up a couple of times, then when succeeded I decided to pay davinciteam to unbrand this as well as she's on o2 and would not want poxy Orange options all over it. So then I had to patch it again, luckily by now I know what I'm doing and did it with my eyes closed. One unlocked, debranded k810i for the missus.

Back to my c905.
Really enjoying the motion sensor I started looking for some wallpapers that utilised this, through google after much searching I found http://www.trekker-reactor.isq-networks-server.com/se-stuff/ (really wish I'd spent more time looking here as links were already up) after seeing a youtube clip of the three balls (which I have on my phone now).
But even more impressive is http://www.fjsoft.at/en/home.php MyPhoneExplorer, I was hoping hoping that someone had written something I could use to change my phonebook as the backup from my old phone is out of date. MyPhoneExplorer is more than this and I'm so happy now.

I only have one problem with the phone, but I need to start another thread about this. Aside from that, the phone is fantastic and this site is fantastic. Over the past few days you have all spurred me on to tame my c905 and I encourage any new members/lurkers to do the same.

Debrand your phone, install some good apps and make it your own.
Am I right in thinking that for a warranty claim all one would have to do is rebrand the phone ?

Good stuff with the debrand mate. I'm pretty sure you're right about rebranding it should it need to be returned. I mean, why else would services like davinci even have the Orange firmware? I can't think of any other reasons.

Guys I bought a C905 on ebay.

How do I make sure it is a retail version and not some sort of test pre production model with "old" samsung camera module ?

Look at the IMEI number (*#06#). All the retail versions starts with 35xxxxxx-xxxxxx-x

Thats good to know as my only concern around debranding is if anything goes wrong to be honest, I want to know that I will still be covered as long as I rebrand it.

Hi !

What advice would you experienced C905 users give to to a person who was just about to buy one?

For example, remove Vodafone firmware and debrand using....?? to ?? firmware.

Camera is best with these settings ..... etc etc.

Or would you just use it as it is ?!

I know I can read the thread but I looking for a Friday 21st up-to-date reply !

I am thinking do I sell my 7.2 mp Casio on and use the C905 as my camera !

Thanks !

Ofiaich

I will bump my own question so it is not missed...

I do hope that a C905 'expert' replies !

@ofiaich

I'd get it debranded for sure. It seems Vodafone have been having a bit of fun with branding the C905.

Best camera settings? No such thing. If you want the best shots, you should always set everything yourself, or in this case choose a scene for every shot. Auto will do just fine about 95% of the time.

What's the model number of your Casio? If it's a cheap low/mid-end compact camera then I wouldn't have much of a problem replacing it with C905.

Hi Mizzle,

I guess I meant camera drivers rather than settings.

Amazingly, I have never debranded a S-E phone ! Had quite a few but never tried that !

My Casio is a EX-Z75 with the latest firmware but still it is perhaps 3-4 years old.

Oh, don't think there are any modified camera drivers for C905 yet.

Try totalgsm for debranding

Regarding your camera, I've had a look at some full size shots from it, and some are better than what C905 could do, while some are significantly worse. When it comes to real life performance I don't think there's that great a difference.

Hi Mizzle,

thanks for that. I have posted photo's from my Casio here and also in my 'for sale' threads.

I am generally satisfied with the results !

If you're pleased with that, you won't have any problems replacing it with C905

Hi again!

the photo's in the thread are of course, cropped. I will do some thinking.

I can take the C905 on my upgrade due now. Not sure whether to keep it or sell it on !

But sales at esato seem very slow at the moment.... Wonder why

The Orange Photography App which shipped on the C905 has dissapeared
I've downloaded the one direct from Orange World but its a different App, is there anywhere I can get the version that is on the C905?
