How do you know? As I said what Windows reports is often different to the actual physical memory. If you are relyimg on the system screen that could be wrong.

Not true. It is not strictly for WM to report how much ram is installed. If HTC can 'hardcode' device info of ROM package of the TP to report 288mb when there is only 256 available to the OS then I'm pretty sure SE could do the same. If there was 384MB SE would report it as such.

Guys just imagine this.

We are those few customers on this planet earth who are already ready with approx $1200 to buy the X1. We are those premium customers compared to the ones using the Walkman series or any other SE phones. I dont want to be treated as a prince because I am a premium customer but I think its my right to atleast not be kept in the dark. I aint asking for a free handset or anything all I want to know from SE is what ram will i get when I pay $1200 or its like a lucky draw where I pay @1200 to find out how much RAM it has.

Totally agree. I just asked a question about this on the Part 2 Q&A thread on Xperiancers. The comment is awaiting moderation but hopefully we can get some definitive answer.

Bottom line is that it would be devestating in the context of buying the X1 if us early-birds get an inferior version (as in less RAM, video and non-video) than those that get it next month perhaps.

I have to click on the small digital clock at the top of the screen to see the battery indicator, how do i get it to stay next to the little clock? Do i have to remove the clock to "make room" for the battery indicator?

Edit: I tested and that worked, but i want to have the clock AND the battery indicator up there at the same time, is this possible?

Here's the final answer for your ram issue guys...

Question--- How much RAM is in the Xperia X1 and how much available after start-up?

Sam Oakley's Answer- RAM is 384 meg, this was upgraded from the white paper to keep the speed up.

Question---Please double confirm that the RAM is indeed 384MB. I have been hearing about retail units showing 256MB RAM and would like to clear up this matter once and for all.

Sam Oakley's Answer- The version I was using touts 256 meg of ram, but I’m reliably informed that the consumer versions are 384 meg

Guess that settles it then.

Not really. No real proof, just hearsay. Re-assuring nevertheless.

Well, I can only report what the hardware informations says. If it is reported wrong or not, I can't say. But I believe it's correct.
It looks like this (translated from swedish, so some words might be bad translated):

CPU: QUALCOMM(R) 7200A
Speed: 528 MHz
RAM-size: 256 MB
Flashmemory: 512 MB
Databus: 32 bits
Storage memory: 281.71 MB
Resolution: 480 x 800
Colors: 65536
Bluetooth version: 2.0/2.0+EDR

Other information that might be of interest to some:
ROM-version: 1.02.936.3
ROM-date: 08/29/08
Radio version: 1.06.25.29
Model: X1i
Platform: PocketPC
IMEI: 3572xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Software-ID: 1213-2274
Software version: R1AA017

For the following I couldn't come up with a decent translation, so I'll write it in swedish as it is in my phone:
Anpassningsversion: R11A
Anpassningsvariant: GENERIC_SE

Going from P990i to the X1, I am quite pleased with almost everything. I don't see the speed as an issue. There are small delays here and there, but nothing too annoying as far as I'm concerned.
One reeeeally annoying thing though, is something called STK-service that keeps poping up all the time. I have found out that it means "SIM Tool Kit"-service, but not exactly what it does.

Over all I think the state of the phone is a little better than the P990 was after a year of updates. Hmmm... Maybe a lot better.
One thing they need to fix though, is the bluetooth communication. It doesn't work perfectly on my phone.

Michael

google it and you should find a fix. The sim toolkit is a menu that is installed by the sim card and is operator specific. I'm pretty sure there is a way to turn it off, not sure how though.

Sounds promising.

You have a old Vodafone/Telenor SIM-card. Call them to get a new one to solve the issue!

That actually makes sense. I'm sure SE would allow current owners of the 256mb version to replace it with the 384mb one should they be unsatisfied, SE probably wanted to catch the 30th Sept deadline but at the same time wanted to give us something extra. That's great news for those meaning to upgrade once WM7 is released, but aside from that, the extra RAM is welcome but wouldn't be a necessity. I'd say SE has outdone themselves if they did in fact give us the extra RAM and a good sign of things to come since it's uncharacteristic of the current SE trend for them to be doing that

Great news indeed, but i wonder how much RAM does WM7 requires.
