Good morning, y'all!
Just woken up...

@ Kryptik,
We've had a (temporary) setback. Within Greater London, there is a 'Key Worker Living' Scheme, targeted at professionals like ourselves. It's to assist those in various professions who wish to work and live close or in the expensive capital.
One can get up to a £50 000 grant towards your chosen property. You are given a very generous radius/catchment around Greater London which will still make your application eligible, going well into the 'Home Counties' around Greater London, ie. Kent, Surrey, Essex, etc.
After filling out 8 pages of forms and submitting them, I am told that the scheme's had its funds exhausted for this financial year, and thus should still be granted the funds and have written confirmation within the next 2 weeks, but the money will only be released/made available at the beginning of the new financial year in April.
So it's a few more months to wait, but at least we can get the ball rolling and still process all the other stuff, should we find the ideal property within the next few months.
Thing is, we did find a stunning property just over 30 miles outside London. Incredible what you get for your money if you're prepared to travel further.
An example: the house we really liked had 4 bedrooms and 2 garages and was completely detached, with decent lawns and in good location etc. Quite akin (in looks too) to some houses back home in sought-after areas. For the same money in a nice part of London, I'll get a 3 bedroom,semi-detached or terraced house with probably no garage! And will probably be able to cut the lawn in the back garden with a scissors...
Anyway, the hunt for Wanqa's World continues...albeit more steadily at this stage.

@ teexl,
Greetings and salutations! Great to hear from you again! I was considering getting a second property, you know, for those nice romantic weekend getaways in some snug log cabin nestled in a.... nice, swampy (kinky mud?) slum area....bliss... you've got me thinking now!!!!

@teexl: Greetings from a windy Slaapstad(Cape Town).

@da wanqsta: Nothing pisses me off more than bureaucracy...One day we'll also reach the point where they'll have to set up some similiar scheme as they have in London because property is getting ridiculously expensive...thank God for low interest rates.

Yeah, bureaucratic bull gets my goat too.
Speaking of which, I remember when we shipped all our personal belongings over to the UK. The shipping company reckoned that the 2 worst countries, when it comes to bureaucratic red tape, is Oz and the USA. By a bloody large margin.

BTW, I really hope and pray that the interest rates remain low in SA for many years to come... for the sake of so many SA home owners. Would hate to hear that so many were forced to sell if they did go up,only for more of these properties to be snapped up by more once-a-year rich foreign holiday makers.

@da wanqsta: a lot of properties in the CBD and along the Atlantic seaboard are owned by these foreigners who visit only once-a-year. I think the way the economy is moving low interest rates are here to stay unless we have some sort of political crisis.

Low interest rates are only good if you have debit, if you have something in the bank you'll prefer the 'other' way.Hey last week I saw something I thought it can be done. A car thief's throat cut off with a steering wheel ! ! ! The newspaper didn't even bother to publish the 'news'.I am sure in Europe should have made first page. Why I am talking about this gruesome stuff ? Well I am one of the few policeman which never booked off for stress. Why? I guess it helps to listen to the police psychologist, talk/share gruesome experiences with others and get them off your chest. Am I misusing the forum ? I guess is your call. Greetings from Jeffreys Bay. Mario (the 'deep down SE hater' - according to Brix) ;-)

@ mario,
I would've thought that goes without saying, but how many home-owners in SA can say that they have no bond/mortgage debt, compared to those that do have?

hope im allowed 2 comment on d interest rates topic(im already writting),in Nig,everybody,i mean evryone prays for a high interest rates.reason to me being that there's virtually no mortgage industry though many banks n discount houses append themselves such titles...all we(yes,me included) hope for is increased rates in terms of money deposited or invested and all...i hope d mindset changes but now we're all looking for huge returns..

@ teexl,
Of course you can join in, as always. It's always good to hear what's going on in other parts of the world, particularly 'Mama Afrika.'

WRT intersest rates, that's interesting that the opposite trend seems to be preferred in 9ja.
As Mario correctly states, if one has capital in the bank, higher interest rates would obviously be the preferred option.
On the one hand, those SA citizens in a privileged position to buy a house in SA,which seems to be dwindling (excl. foreigners) if looking at current house prices, would champion the cause of low interest rates.
Perhaps it's fair to say that most SA citizens would battle to save up any substantial sum of money in the bank at the moment, with the cost of living as it is,then what little that remains (if any) at the end of each month would need some serious hike in interest rates to see any decent return on such small amounts...although it's better than nothing.. obviously.
A 'catch 22' scenario,I guess, irrespective which category one falls into.
As always, I'm open to correction if what I have stated does not paint a realistic picture of the current SA income/interest rate status quo.

LMAO@ mario2002, that's opinion and I'll stick to it unless you prove me wrong and go buy an
Talking of buying, last night I bought my brother a Siemens C65 from Cell C, never thought I'd buy from them but I did.
The phone was slightly over R600, including starterpack but I already hated Cell C when I tried to set-up GPRS...there's no info in the booklet that comes with the starterpack, their customer service line was closed after midnight when I tried to call them. I'm already pissed.

Gabba glory for the Proteas!
Nearly couldn't believe our rotten luck when it started raining when we were 7 runs away from victory. Phew...
That attacking Boucher/ Kemp partnership was a joy to behold, sweetened by seeing Lee hit for 17 in his final over, and McGrath's face after being hit for 6. Bliss.
Let's hope they keep the momentum up fot the rest of the series.

Must get down to doing a mini-review of the SPV C550, particularly now that I'm more familiar with the UI/WindowsMobile 5.0.
Really impressed with the handset.

@ da brixsta,
Did you manage to get through to Cell C's customer services yet?
So I take it that your boet won't be using the T39m anymore.
I'm sure that he really appreciated you getting him a new phone,
I just never would have thought you would buy a C65...were there no other similar specials on other basic cameraphones?

I spent the better part of today trying to configure GPRS for my brother but it's near impossible, plus I discovered last night that the phone is locked to Cell C. Tried calling their customer care and it seems they take off over weekends. I went online and had them send me the settings but it still won't connect...WTF?
@da wanqsta: My brother's basic requirement was a cameraphone with "real tones"...The C65 has a basic cam and can play .wav files which is quite good for a phone priced at R600.
Unfortunately missed the cricket namhlanje.

Ja nee, was just hauling out my school bag in preparation for the first day of the new term which starts tomorrow.

Brix, one would hope that Cell Sheep gets their act together pronto, the fact that there was nobody to take your call reflects very poorly upon them.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

Taking a suggestion from my girlfriend I discovered that phone is not locked afterall. My MTN sim which I put in earlier was faulty.
Still trying to dowload settings though.
