Why do they have to wait until Q4 to give us the HD video recording? Couldn't that appear in an earlier update?

I think that is not good news, bad news for me:
1 - Q4 begins in the month of October, more than five months for a system that already works for several months and that all new HTC phones have it implemented.
2 - Update to 2.1 when it is about to get 2.2, which greatly improves the 2.1, good negotiation of RAM, 10 native flash, etc. .. etc. ..

+1 @RickyD to me the upgrade of the UXP means more than the version of Android. 2.1 is supposed to offer significant improvements over 1.6, and many of those have already been addressed by SE, as covered ad-nauseum here previously.
More encouraging for me was this section:
"I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. In the next post, I will share more details and precise timings for when this update will be released."
It seems to add wait to the hope that the Battery Life and perhaps a few other issues will be addressed before the 2.1 Update.
Please everyone bombard SE with requests for voice activated dialing that can be initiated by the BT handsfree Units..
Loving the X10.

hope they can release the firmware updates earlier.. seriously q4??? everyone will be back on iphone 4th gen.
right now i'm dealing with bad battery life, horrible charging times, crappy camera (flash doesn't even flash lol)
bad call quality, earpiece makes cracking popping noises at full volume and the mic picks up waaaaaay too much background noise...
lol the alarm clock doesn't even consistently go off...
this product is rough around the edges

@Dragoneye
- battery life isn't that bad after several charges... not sure what you mean about charge times but it charges fairly quickly for me.
- there is NO flash.. never was and never said to be. it's a photo LIGHT.
- call quality seems to be a sporadic problem as i have no issues whatsoever.. in fact people tell me i sound better now than on my old phone.
- no issues with background noise for me either
- alarm clock works fine except it will give up after 10 mins (i wish it would keep going). BUT.. i don't see how SE is to be blamed for that as i'm assuming that's the same across all android phones

@Dragoneye.
What verison of the firmware are you running?
Low Caller Volume. Hopefully the caller volume will be addressed in the forth comming firmware in a few weeks time.
-Battery Life. If you have does get better after a few charging cycles. Also you can also use application such as Power Manager, Process Manager and APNDroid to extend the battery life. I have a Nokia AC-10X (1200mh) charger and it takes about 1/2 hours to full charge the battery at the moment compared to the 3/4 hours on the standard charger (750mh)
-Camera Flash. Its a photolight not a flash as Android 1.6 i believe doesn't support camera led flashes. This will be a new feature in 2.1.

I'm not trying to create a conspiracy theory but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some sort of clause from a previous contract between SE and HTC (possibly from poor X1 sales, X1 of course been made with aid from HTC) stating that they must stay 1 generation of android behind them, hence, waiting for all the HTC models to get upto 2.2 before rolling out 2.1. But then it could just be coincidence that probably most of the capable HTC models will be on 2.2 by then. But then again it could just be because 's UI implementation has so much more depth compared to other manufacturer's customisation.
Either way, I'm not complaining, like I said before 2.1 is more than welcome and 2.2 wouldn't make too much difference to me. HD recording is a huge plus in my book and so is anythng that'll make the audio side of mediascape better, or the face recognition for that matter or the camera interface. I really want to see a return of features like panoramic mode or BestPic, but I doubt that will happen.

No conspiracy, but HTC has more experience doing Android development, more resources for Android development, and not to mention probably a better relationship with Google for Android development. HTC is able to concentrate on two primary OSs (Android/WinMo and now some Qualcomm BREW). Sony Ericsson and the little R&D resources that remain must focus on three smartphone OSs (WinMo6.5-WindowsPhone7/Android/Symbian). I am pretty sure that all of HTCs Android 2.1 devices (Legend, Desire, Nexus One, Incredible) will have Froyo on them by the time the X10 has Eclair. just my opinion though.

I've had the x10a for about 3 weeks now .. the battery is calibrated and it's bad.. sure if i want to run it on 2g it's great but with 3g running it's horrible..
the charging is slow via usb cable and computer at least.. (it took 5 hours to charge from 8% to 65% from my work laptop) via outlet it takes about 2-3 hours which is normal..(my iphone had bad battery life but it would charge up quickly at least)
the call volume is decent as long as you have it in the sweet spot, but at full volume the voices crack sounds like a tin can. just compared to my buddy's n97 mini or heck even my wifey's iphone 3gs it sounds bad.. i was on the train.. people were complaining that they can hear the conversations around me clearer then me lol.
test at home and the tv was loud and clear as well.. (either way subpar imo)
RANT
don't even get me on the android 1.6 vs. 2.1 nonsense.. android's fragmentation will be its downfall.. seriously it's sad that they can't even make the photo light (flash) even the k750 had a photolight that "flashed" and that was eons ago. maybe SE should have found sometime to add useful customizations vs. the useless timescape and mediascape apps.
Instead of SE giving us 2.1 in Q4 they should give us ROOT access and make the apps installable outside of the core UI.. Which is what I think 2.2 is offering anyway..
the camera is also slow and laggy.. heck even when it saves a pic.. it stutters along lol
END RANT
And my alarm clock on the phone doesn't always work.. maybe 3x out of 7 days... some times it's goes off sometimes it doesn't..

Although is it good to hear that SE finally set time on when the Android 2.1 is going to come on x10, I still feel sad that there is no word about multi-touch feature. I just hope the update on UXP will offer a lot of cosmetic and functionality changes. |

I don't recognise any of these problems with my X10. Alarm has never failed, camera startup time is good and don't experience any lag when picture is saved. Of course I cannot know about individual expectations but in my experience it is a great device. At first I had to keep an eye on battery level during the day but now it last me through the day no problem. I agree that charging takes ages connected to a computer but hey, there is a fix as the X10 comes with a charger |

Then something is wrong with the phone, I've had mine about the same length of time now and the battery life is pretty fantastic, not an issue at all for me, and that's with 3G going at all times and at least 100mb downloaded a day.

The power that comes out of a computer USB port is simply very low, this is normal.

I haven't been on train with the phone yet but this may be a fair concern, although I haven't had any issues with the speaker so far.

I have no idea what you meant to say!

I agree, somewhat. As long as applications are backward compatible I don' think regular Android OS updates are a bad thing though.

Someone will surely root the phone sooner or later, it has only been out a month and I'm sure it will be rooted before the SE update comes along.

Yes, but it's still better then any offered on any other Android phone.
