yep

and ty everyone for the responses...rogers says they use primarily the 1900 mhz thing...so hopefully a 900/1800/1900 will work fine... so if so..why do we need North American versions.... NA uses 1900...and europe 1800(i think)...so... wats the prob?

there isn't really a problem, but there are some areas that have poor coverage on 1900 and great coverage on 850. This is a rare scenario, but it exists, and some either know they live in such an area, or don't want to ever get caught in an area like that.

Howdy,

Does anyone know if the w800 will implement any kind of DRM or
other restrictions on downloaded MP3s?

Can anyone comment on the K750s - does this phone have
any such restrictions?

I know that the new OLED Sony flash MP3 players do have
some DRM protection enforced.

Note - should only consider unbranded SIM-free phones here,
not vodafone branded - I will only buy unbranded phones.

@quoth,
i stand corrected. after re-assessing the w800 i came to the conclusion that it's a good phone but not a great one. certainly not in the league that se wants to attach this phone to the walkman name. especially now that nokia just released/about to release their N-series phones. hands down, these phones kick butt! don't get me wrong, i love se. in fact i've got a usable collection starting from a t65 all the way to k700i. but technology wise i think se was expecting too much from this unit much like the hype that centerd the k700 nearly a year ago. overall though, se still makes the best, but it's being challenged. the uber-tech chic nokia N-series, the once mighty motorola (who just acquired sendo) and the korean giant, samsung are all in se's tail. and if se doesn't get it's act right, especially around phone like the w800, se might lose the race and more than a few fans.

I am personally of the opinion that the Nokia n-series is over hyped. I don't really like the look of them (especially the N91 - the hard drive phone - now that is truely ugly), I don't like the idea of a hard drive in a phone as it needs to be capabale of taking some rough treatment.
I think the W800 is quite a lot better; smaller, better looking, better UI.
The only issue for me is the cost of the memory sticks, if they become affordable for the larger sizes then SE can clean up.

Design perferences are everyone's own. So if you don't like Nokia N series, thats your choice. But I think getting concerned over the point that harddisk in a phone is unsafe is probably too much. People are using iPODs for ages now. There are numerous other harddrive based portable devices and phone will not have to take any additional beating than those. So I guess its not a valid concern that phone's shall not have harddrives.

Actually I think phones do take more of a battering hence the point I made. I don't know anyone that takes their HDD player everywhere they go but almost everyone takes their mobile everywhere.
My phone goes out mountainbiking with me, goes to the pub with me, goes to the Rugby League with me and it went clubbing with me when I was still young enough to bothered. I can't say I've ever seen any hard drive devices at any of these places. OK maybe the pub but not many and not on a busy Friday/Saturday evening when people are out seriously drinking.

Also, I don't think the N91 being an ugly phone is subjective. I'd be amazed if anyone thought otherwise and if they did I would worry about their sanity.

Many people will prefer to have something more light and less expensive like the w800

Plus it has a much better camera than the n91

N91 is simply just but ugly, and the keypad is so unergonomically deigned that they'l propably receive several lawsuits when people start using the phone

I have to ask this question even though it has probably been asked before, but after reading some comments from bengalboy about W800i and autofocus, I need to be ensured that there is an AF on the W800i?

can anyone confirm this? and by confirming i don't mean by referering to the specs.

I guess the only way to know for sure, is to wait for pictures taken by w800i.

@prudent

yes, W800i has auto-focus..
i can assure you of that. if you look at the pictures of the back, under the camera... it says "AF 4.8 mm" or something like that. ALSO, from Sony Ericsson website...
"Open the active lens cover and the W800i camera viewfinder appears onscreen ready to use. The camera shutter, autofocus and digital zoom control are at your fingertips - where you want them. When you want to adjust contrast, set image effects or size, switch to night mode or use another camera feature use your thumb to browse the camera menu. Easy."
