Hello to everyone. I'm a very proud owner of k700i (unfortunately O2 branded), but since I've had problems with my phone ('cause of the firmware) (when I answer on the call that was on waiting the person who had called me can't hear me, the phone freezes or reboots without any reason, etc...), I tried to udate firmware version (mine is R2A041) on the Sony Ericsson update service online, but while doing so, I get stuck on the same thing every time, and non of U guys has ever mentioned this kind of a problem before... Here is what I can see on Java console :

hi/bok tomcat,

looking at your CDA you won't be able to use SE US anyway (look at this thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=73606).

this is from my Java Console if it helps...

Seems that this is the big diference :
hf.path file=C:\hf.path

InstallDir = C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service

I can't see why I do not get this message, although I didn't find this dir in my SE dir.

I can send you the file - seus_setup115.exe - to email if you can receive such large files. it is around 12 MB. PM me with email if you want it.

I am also using latest version of Sun Java on Win XPSP2...

I am no expert, but maybe it is error in proxy configuration or firewall...

Ciao

I would suggest always using Mirosoft Java Virtual Machine when using Windows XP as it is far more stable. It is not available any more but a search on google will reveal it. You would be surprised how many errors are caused from Java VM's.

Also, I hate Sun Java, talk about take over your system! It almosts constitutes as spyware!!!

@rex

the instructions told me that if ever i encounter the "error in comunicationg with device..." message i should just remove the battery, reinsert it again and turn on the phone. if the phone functions normally then i can start the whole upgrade process again. if the phone doesn't start or doesn't function normally then i should try the recovery mode. in my case i decided not to start the process all over again or g thru the recovery mode. my phone turned on and seemed to function normally. tried it out for a couple of days and i never encountered the problems i had before like not being able to delete recorded movie clips, not being able to receive any file via bluetooth or IR (phone displays "memory full" even though i still have at least 35MB free memory.

I figure out a way to use the SE Update Service with branded phones

"Recovery mode" offers an opportunity to revive non-operational devices only. The reason why the device is non-operational is not relevant. As long as you have previously tried to use the service you will be able to use recovery mode. When the device is non-operational, the service can not retrieve the CDA-number from the device.Hence, recovery mode can only be used if you have used the service before so the service knows which CDA-number to use for your particular device.

So you just put recovery mode and you download the data from a user that has used the K700 update service before, and you can flash your phone

I bought my K700i unbranded with R2L001 software from start.
And I bought the DSS-25 a couple of days ago so I wanted
to test my new kit so I connected to the update service.
Well aware that I would recieve a messege that I already
had the latest software. To my surprise it continued to install
a new software version.

The version still says R2L001 but I can for sure prove that some
change has been made.
The first thing I noticed was a brighter screen and the second
thing was more obvious. My Sony Ericsson icon had been changed
to a "Play Now" button. A white&green button with a filled green arrow inside.

So what's up with this? Why could I update? And the more important
ones, why no new revision update and what the hell is "Play Now"???
It tries to connect to GPRS if I press it.

/Harry

Play Now is a service for downloading ringtones. When you choose Play Now the phone connects to a download site where you can listen to ringtones and if you like them you may download them. For a certain cost of course!

I had this icon in my phone when I bought my phone, which is Telia-branded. But now you know what it's for anyway! =)
