SEUS says it's up to date.

Well that doesn't make it Vanilla then |

Yeah I'm aware of that it's only got a tiny hint of strawberry in there though so I'm happy....
...only possible problem is if in the future I update using SEUS and it puts a heavily branded firmware on. |

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time in a 2 Mpixel mobile camera. Let's say you are somewhere and want to send someone an MMS, but you are a little bit too far from the object you want to show. Then it would definitely be a waste of time shooting the image without zoom, going home and resize it in an image editor before sending it.
But I agree that as long time isn't of importance it would be better using Photoshop to get the amount of zoom you like. The resizing algorithms are most likely a lot better.

I'd still argue that a digital zoom is a complete waste of time - it doesn't get you any nearer to the subject and it certainly doesn't magnify a subject which is too far away - all it does is to simply enlarge the centre of the frame image resulting in reduced quality and "blurring" of the image.
Although I imagine it could help as a "crop" function function when sending a 2MP as reduced size image in an MMS so I guess you may have a point on that score. |

This is my status screen. Why do I have the CDA listed twice?

I understand your opinion, and totally agree when it comes to more serious photography, in which case the P990i is a waste of time in the first place.
I think it's sufficient to use as an every-day-camera. Excellent to use for snapshots, but I wouldn't use it for any kind of important shooting. |

I quite agree. Rarely use the camera myself and I view it as a "bonus" feature and nothing more.
I can't imagine a camera phone for a good few years (if ever) which is worth bothering with for anything serious.
Devices like the K800i may be perceived as "good" for a camera phone, but all but the absolute cheapest digital cameras will run rings around them. |

Digital zoom is very usefull for small pictures (like MMS).
Example:
A photo, digital zoomed 4x, resized to 4x less resolution (than full resolution), it's similar to an optical zoom of 4x.

Not exacly since the picture you change size on is disorted and digitaly changed when you take it. When then resizing it the information you resize is not holding the same information as a picture taken without the zoom.
I tested to set the camera at 640x480 and take a picture in full zoom but sadly it does the same disortion and digital changing it the picture as in full resolution. The smart way of doing the zoom when in lower resolution would be to only use part of the optics in the cam... but I think it is using every pixel and then downsize it.
Am I making any sence?

done couple of tests and i found that i have the same problem with the autofocus if i zoom to something close to me the autofocus works great but if i zoom to somthing farther like more than 2-3 meter i get a blurry pic
not sure if it is a f/w issue or H/W
plz try to zoom to something a bit far and see what are the results |

This has been discussed before in this thread. In the new FW R7A001 agile will start and connect but you can't use the options-meny without the app quits itself. If the FW before that you couldn't even start it and in the first FW if worked without no problems. (exept all the problems the first FW had)
