for files on the storage card, with windows media player you have to click library, then choose either "my device" or "storage card" assuming your have already clicked menu and "update library"

No I did that, but it just simply would not read my storage card after awhile. When the card was new, it did. than after about a week it stop reading it. I thought it was the card, but I bought a new one and the same thing happened, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the card reader or software. |

@tkao2025
had strange problems with SD card and WM and MS Reader on my HTC Universal when using PowerSave. When you use WM make sure you stop and exit otherwise open files on the card are not managed properly when the device is re-started. The other option is to not to use PowerSave. Only solution is to reformat the card. |

@all
Ive emailed HTC support concerning a software update for the TyTN (english as far as i know but i figure the updates would be multilingual?!?!) and received the following reply:
Quote:
| Hi (REMOVED),
Thank you for your email.
As yet we have received no indication from HQ in Taiwan as to when an improved and updated ROM will be released. We chase them on almost a daily basis, but sadly as yet they have not been forthcoming with any information other than "it is on its way".
I realise that this answer is neither here nor there, but at the moment this is all we have!
We fully expect our new ROM build to address may of the technical bugs our "1.0" build has.
Keep you eye on both out HTCEurope.com website, and our main HTC.com website for updates.
Yours sincerely

By the tone of the email it suggests some frustration?? Possibly they are eagerly awaiting some sort of update as many have emailed them?? |

On the whole the SPV M3100 (aka TyTN) is a solid and stable device with lots of RAM and not much RAM memory leak. I have just spotted a few issues but as I said there also many positive points (eg great battery life):
- in Notes the Outlook categories are not preserved (works okay even on my old Palm!)
- using the mobile version of Esato the wheel does not scroll to all the hyperlinks in Pocket IE, seems to skip some. On the mobile BBC site the wheel operation does not even run through the hyperlinks but operate the scroll bar instead
- I need to test T-mobile 3G but with O2 3G the SPV seems slow with email and browsing (but when looking at full normal web sites PIE is very good) relative to the P990
- also if you use power save then you need to switch on the device before you can do anything, eg make a call! On the P990 when power save is used the P990 just wakes-up as soon as you use any button/operation
Finally (warning this is not logically), I find the SPV a bit boring compared to the P990 (masseur falls of chair ). Its no different to any other WM5 device. Personally I would prefer the TyTN's bigger brother with fewer buttons and larger device with a bigger keyboard and higher res screen so that you can really exploit the PDA functionality. I'm thinking 1cm wider and say 1.5cm higher.

The failure of the P990 to hold its RAM as it should and various other small shortcomings have forced me to reconsider the TyTN as my primary device..
This is a very difficult choice though..I left the P990 deliberately at home for a few hrs, but i guess it has grown so much on me now despite its shortcomings that i found myseld rushing back to get it..
The multimedia implementation, the excellent radio, the call quality (although TyTN has improved on previous wm5 devices in that respect), the extremely happy 'marriage' with the DS 970's and the mere design of the P990 are the factors making me want to stay with it.
I must say though that I force myself to come to terms with rebooting in order to maintain performace, and if SE do not improve on the RAM issue then the initial enthusiasm will run out quickly and it will be the TyTN or another Phone/ PDA that i will turn to eventually as my std device..
I feel there are many current users in my position and SE will have to do something very quickly to protect the phone's success and their reputation.. |

I dont know why alot of you are holding on to the HTC Rom when the Dopod one that came out is very stable and seems to have fixed a few peoples screen alignment problems, if you too lazy to look for it here u go.

WWE = WORLD WIDE ENGLISH last I remember, and if you head over to xda forum you will see some positives regarding this update.
If I recall Dopod we the first to sort out push email and bluetooth audio on the S200, I have alot of faith in them so why not give this a shot I have been running it solid no problem what so ever.

Completly agree with those sentiments Avantis.
The TyTN does everything I need, and for the most part very well (apart from some multimedia aspects like slightly iffy A2DP, and IMO average camera). As a device is is just about everthing you could want and with its 802.11g, worldwide 3G and HSDPA support far more future proof than the P990i. For the most part I find it significantly faster for most functions too - a great example being the speed of IE compared to Opera on the P990i which often pauses and hangs as pages are loaded .
There is also plenty of software out there for WM5 - not something that can be said of UIQ3.
...But
Why do I always find myself coming back to the P990i. As Jah said above it is simply not logical. There is just "something" about it which I can't put my finger on.
It could be just blind loyalty to SE and the P-series line, but it also could be because it just has more of a "special" feel about despite the current shortcomings of UIQ3.
I guess my ideal device would reall be the P990i running WM5. |

for anyone interested in trying themarques idea you can find the xda developers page for downloading different ROMS here
and if you are looking for external ROM downloads (which often contain some useful stuff) they have a page here
the i-mate extended rom is the interesting one for me as it has a bunch of CABs with operator settings and so if you have an unbranded version you can get all your operator settings in a single click

Presumably these CABs can be extracted from the i-mate Extended Rom and installed seperately when running the standard HTC ROM?
Must admit I was suprised HTC hadn't done anything similar in their own ROM as standard. |

@SL33PYH34D and all
First of all i would gladly accept your comments for making my first post from my brand new MacBook pro!! It has a kind of P990 feeling but with tonnes more Ram and a fantastic processor..anyway..It is a very impressive pice of kit..
Yes, I hope that one of these days i will put my finger on what it is that P990 has that pulls me so much..
By the way thank you guys for all the useful infoon the TyTN ROM updates. |

Hi all
I'm going to be such a pain, but I'm trying to decide between the P990i and the HTC, but I just can't come to a decision. I'm trying to read through this thread and all the ones on the other forums, such as Whatmobile, but there's so much to process I'm not really getting anywhere. Particularly because I'm completely new to Smartphones & their software, so much of it goes straight over my head!!
So... Can anyone post a really simple comparison of the 2? You know, good points and bad points of both?
I really would appreciate it, cause I'm just getting more confused and more indecisive by the minute!! Thanks... |
