what do you mean by saying hardware-based?is it controlled by the DSP or by other chip? And except Maria and Shinobu(if it is WM 3.0),do you think midtier Walkmans will have it?
And what about the DSPs in the N****s?Anybody?

i'm not very impressed with walkman 3.0 at this stage
still need to figure out some other killer apps on top of noise canceling and fancy UI, seriously jumping bubbles, full screen effects, make your own theme, animated album art, new system of sorting music... where is that going?
digital radio and DMB are likely to be separated from Walkman, let alone they most probably won't even come out this year, the market is simply not interested yet (and also the technical issues that are not solved on so903itv, which was announced way too early when it's so unready and unrefined IMHO)
music subscription service: they'll need to get on details with individual operators, and when it comes to money, it's gonna take a lot of time to bargain, u either please vodafone or hutchuson3 or the record companies, but not all

that n mayb what i had in mind a audio enhancement chip like wit nokia 5700...
I am not sure how to explain this.....what nokia claim to have added in 5700 could be refer back to what their previous offering is lack of.
However we only know whether that cheap is better than what SE is using in their current Walkman series when someone did a serious comparison.
Just like how camera phones were compared previously.
Who know what SonyE is using with their mid tier/ low tier and high tier walkman phone...each of them could be using different chip set and software to run the music playback portion. |

I still think that Shinobu is a different. Laura is the S500.
UPDATE:
- The next range of Walkman phones will have hardware based noise cancellation. Software wise they will have a redesigned interface (bubble animations), full screen effects, animated album art, new organisation, and custom themes.
- White/Black flip phone
A clamshell which will come in either black or white. Large screen. Looks similar to this phone: http://k-tai.impress.co.jp/cda/static/image/2006/01/19/41ca04.jpg

Just the looks or the screen will swivel too?
I wonder if makes a cybershot clamshell where they're going to put the controls, if they intend to have landscape shooting mode.

Where did you hear that? The picture is only an example of a similar looking phone to the SE flip.

right, over its display is clearly written Casio,so not a SE phone, even for the Japan market
So,nobody knows nothing about the DSPs,they are "top secret",huh?
If somebody wants to change at home his "change-only-in-a-service" housing of an N91 he will see the branding of the chip,if he knows what to look for.If anyone has done this, lets make it not so "top secret"
And I've asked for the noise canceling - if its done by the DSP we may expect better results |

No no no It's similar in design to the Casio phone, it's an example, not a photo.
