What's a port range?
I also use netgear with a WEP pass code, if you make it a long random password it secure enough, makes it easy to connect to home wifi with mobiles

All applications use a port range to connect to the net, google for more info, WEP is easy to crack WPA is a bit stronger but still crackable , it depends how smart you think your neighbours whether you use WEP or WPA, you should be fine with WEP though.
