Honestly I feel SE will be more intrested in selling the phones first and then think of giving away at a lucky draw. Also if you realise you are the first person on this earth to have a final X1 (as you claim) and that too free of cost at a lucky draw. Doesn't sound too appealing. You better conform with your contact at SE and also ask him how to distinguish between a prototype and a final X1.

@big-stan
Yes that has been my impression all the way from the xperia announcement in february. When asked questions about figures he never seems to know the answer or answers in a way as if he's really not understood the question.

He did say his IMEI started with 35, and in that case it's not a prototype.. |

So does that mean that we could be looking at 256 RAM + 128MB video RAM. If so, then is the Touch Pro 192MB RAM + 96MB video RAM ? And/or the Diamond 128 RAM + 64MB video RAM ?
Because 192MB / 288MB are also atypical RAM amounts.

H.264 is the only format recorded at 15fps VGA. H.264 encoded files can be played back at 30fps VGA. Everything else is play/record 30fps VGA. Of course this pertains to the X1i only.
thanks but i know all of this...
my question in simple way is:
is there a way to make the X1i camera record video in VGA@30fps with whatever codec??? or it's just VGA@15fps H264??
in other words... i want to record video on a X1i with H263 VGA@30fps... can i???? |

so there should be an option in the camera to choose between codecs. right??
@any X1i owner
is there any option in the camera menu allowing you change the video codec? or does it automaticly change with for exmple.. quality settings??
thanks. |

Lucky draw?
As I said it was an auction, not a free give-away. I paid around 800 EUR for the phone and all the money went straight to Unicef. |

last time I checked the Xperia was running WM6 not PPC2k, CE 2 or any other iteration of Windows CE/Mobile. No need to remind me of those dark and gloomy days as I fell victim to those hard resets as a result of insufficient battery power not to mention sliding a bar to determine how much of 16mb you wanted to devote to storage/ram!!
With the Xperia RAM and storage are independent of each other and you can't store stuff in ram. Though I will agree to be honest 384mb isn't a necessity as I said earlier even with 256mb ram and someone that has always stressed pda's I am yet to run out of memory on my touch pro. 384MB would just have been nice for WM7 purposes but even then, by the looks of things WM7 won't be coming to Q3 09 and by then I most definitely will be looking to buy a new device! Heck, I'm not even sure if my touch pro will see it out till xmas!!

I wasn't actually saying that you could store files in RAM on WM, I'm just trying to demonstrate that on WM5 and later you can't reduce RAM by installing more programs - so 256MB is therefore quite a lot of RAM not in danger of being consumed by a user's files or installed programs.
I realise my comment about X1 storage wasn't really relevant, not quite sure why I brought it up tbh Just ignore it. If you notice I never actually said that X1 could store user data in RAM, and I certainly never said X1 runs PPC

No, there is no way there is 128MB is dedicated to video ram in the Xperia. I do know for the Touch Pro it is advertised as 288MB but 32MB of that is not for OS functions, most likely Rx. etc. That leaves 256MB.
Since the Diamond is based on the same chipset then by extension the same would apply therefore based on typical ram configs that would mean Diamond has 128MB ram plus 32mb on-die to make 160MB leaving 32Mb unaccounted for. No idea where HTC is pulling the extra 32MB from?!
edit: just looked at my touch pro and only 201mb is visible by the WM so my guess is that HTC is amalgamating ram from everywhere for spec sheets. that would mean TP has 32MB for radios etc, 224mb for OS, and 32mb for gfx. it would equate to something similar for the diamond.

Lol, I must say it did bring a tear to my eye. The good ol days of PPC and the eternal battle to avoid hard resets. Deciding how much ram/storage you wanted to allocate and keeping a fresh supply of coin cell backup batteries was all part of the fun!! |

Just got confirmed that my Xperia X1 is the real deal and no prototype etc. The version I have is the one that will be available in shops starting this friday the 10th (official launch date in Sweden).
So there we go, 256MB RAM is the final thing. |

No reason to think it isn't, just a few confused remarks that have been built up into an incontrivertable truth by people here because it's what they want to believe. Until we have someone with a retail unit who can prove it's got 384mb on board, I'm more inclined to believe the first hand reports which say otherwise, particularly since 256mb is a far more sensible and likely amount for a WM6.1 phone anyway.

And perhaps wanting to believe it's 384mb doesn't make it the truth either
