All of us in Egypt have very good expectations from Etisalat. This is justfied if we consider their smashing success in the Saudi market.
The gr8 thing about them is that they're not so keen on getting their ROI that fast, they rather invest strategically. Let's hope they\\re really up to our expectations.

So you're alive

I don't think any mobile company can think of a quick ROI, its almost impossible anyways with what the cost will be.

So the other one is alive too.

ROI I'm pretty much sure that is return on investment.

Hi guys,

New here from Egypt, joined Esato with my new K800i. Having a 3G phone that doesn't support MobiNiL's new EDGE coverage, anyone knows of MobiNiL will implement 3G soon, or shall I switch to the 3rd company?

Yup, I'm alive and kicking
Fast ROI came with Mobinil within 3-4 of operation and same case with Voda. As for the 3rd operator, it will not come before 6-7, almost the double, and they know it, and that's why ROI is not Etisalat's main KPI, rather, it's the presence in such a strong and promising market as that of Egypt, and that explains why they were so keen on getting the license no matter what, even with a knock out to all other competitors.

Welcome to the Egyptian forum,
As for the K800, if you're one of Mobinil's subscribers, then you should've done your research and purchased the K790i instead of the K800 coz it's the one that supports EDGE(though TRA is trying to block its use on Mobinil). Anyway of course you can switch to the 3rd operator, but you'll have to be a postpaid sub(1 year ols subscription), and will have to wait with the new operator for another 1 full year before thinking of switching again.

@mahora:
Thanks for the warm welcome. I've already done my research and the K790 doesn't sell in the Middle East.

Anyway, any of you knows more details about the 3rd operator? Serving in the army is really blocking my news gathering. So, all I know is that there's going to be a new operator (Etisalat) who paid a few million EGP just for their license and certain technology usage.

alibond82, welcome.

You should've bought the K790 which to be honest I haven't seen
Etisalat paid 16.7 billion EGP for the licence not a few million. Everyone I speek to seem to think that switching is a good idea because they're fed up with the current companies and for you you'll get 3G. You could've gotten the W810 which has EDGE, but I think you went the right way with the K800. You actually can afford the ridiculous data rates they have. Of course you're probably after mobinil's 1LE a day offer which I think is only for this summer and there isn't much time left.

@mahora
POI was easy but do say what the acronym is the first time or you'll lose us all. KPI? and TRA? Key point of investment? The rugby association?

I say why?
Etisalat, I prefer to think of Mobily , won't offer pre-paid? You have to leave your current company to get a line on the new one? You can't get a whatever 1 year contract and then decide which company to dump?

Yeah, I know about mobinil's 1LE/day offer, it expires 7th September. I don't use WAP much anyway, I use GPRS to check my emails and such. Also, as I have mentioned before K790 is not available in Egypt market. And getting W810i isn't an option for me. I seek the best in the line, so for me K800i has it all, like my old T39m when it was released to the market. Also, the T28

So you had a K750 before? S700? W900?
Mobinil's offer is only on its wap site not any usage of gprs? Just wondering because it doesn't really matter as I'm on voda.

Sorry guys for the rather technical terminology.
KPI= Key Performance Indicators (a marketing & finance mehtod to measure how well a company is doing in terms of subs nos, revenues, etc)
TRA= Telecom Regulatory Authority (in arabic i think it's Gehaz tanzim el etisalat)
As for the info on number portability ( when you move, you get your dial with u), it's inside information, mustafabay
@alibond82
I like your concept of getting top of the line products, though i myself rather think of what best suits my needs.
Anyway, enjoy your time in the military, Comrade in arms (I'm a reservist, but not for very much longer

I know you can switch over to the other company keeping you same number. But what if you want to keep your old line too? And I'm guessing somebody at mobinil has the same number as I do, so is it first there, first served?

@mahora: Well, I think like you too, but somehow the top of the line is the one that always suits my needs. For example, I could have gotten an i-mate K-JAM, because I need WiFi, but I have it in my laptop and I'm always on the move with my laptop so, no real need for WiFi, I needed a high quality camera, so comes the K800i's 3.2MP CS camera handy. Stuff like that I always calculate it and do my research before buying the phone.

@mostafabay: I'm just a soldier man, doing my time and will set free in a few months

Ah, by the way. Nice to meet you guys.

What's the benefit of keeping your old line? cellular lines are predefined on a certain company's switches, so how can you move a line between 2 entirely different switches in 2 entirely different companies? impossible of course. If your concern is the services you have on your old line which might not be available in the new company, then you need to check the availability of these services first with the other company.

mahora, I don't think I quite get what you're trying to say. What I'm trying to say is a lot of people might want to try the new company's services before they give up on their old one. They can use two phones you know. The second one being something cheap like a 1100.
