I don't think that is the Z4 that just passed through the FCC as it has a removable back cover, maybe it's the E4 as previous images show it has that option, I also don't think the Z4 will have OIS purely because the SteadyShot tech that is currently in use has been proven to be better than most phone with OIS.
Absolutely. No OIS needed as of now, the SteadyShot works GREAT, couldn't demand more from my Z2.
Also a lot of video tesing showed that is is even better than OIS on most of rivals smartphone |

@XperiaJunkie
hiyu writes on digi-wo "FCC map. . This Is Z4 ,,.". he is almost always accurate in his info as far as i remember. plus, the drawing does not match e4 headphone jack placement so believe it is not likely to be e4. look at e4 here: http://teleguru.pl/wiadomosci[....]ototyp_e4_w_finalnej_fazie_762

How is the steady shot on still images, since I have seen the effect for videos but does it work as well for still photos as OIS would? |

@amirprog If that is the Z4 can we assume that the back may be made of a different material as most removable back covers require a little bit of flex to be removed and glass certainly wouldn't fit that category. I can see the benefits of a removable back cover one of them being less port flaps for sim and micro SD slots as they could hide behind the cover.

@ascariss check out doministry's Flickr page, there's lot of low light shots taken with the Z2.

Bullshit, SteadyShot might be steady, but we loose on quality(about 15%) and field of view with it. Same can be done by recording normal video, and using PC software to stabilize the video, it does exactly the same thing as SteadyShot. On top of that SteadyShot consumes a lot of power (fast heating issues anyone? )
And OIS also helps taking better photos. There are only advantages to having OIS, so saying things like SteadyShot is better than OIS makes me laugh hard, you know what's better? SteadyShot with OIS. That's right. |

I was just talking about stabilisation, not image quality or anything else, and just in regard to other smartphones.
If we talk about Real OIS (as the one in alpha7000) I'm pretty sure it beats the crap out of steadyshot in any condition. |

Guess no Z4 Ultra again. It's not a threat but sony is pushing me to the Note series unfortunately. |

There is no alpha7000, yet The OIS in the A7II is quite nice, but the problem is that is doesn't work with all lenses, and in some it doesn't work 100%. While the steadyshot works well for video, the quality is not as good as OIS, seeing some videos on youtube comparing the sony to iphone6 with OIS. Sure the stabilization is superior and it feels like it is on some support but the drop in quality is noticeable.
I'd prefer Sony use OIS over steadyshot any day, I personally use the camera for photos than videos, so OIS would be of higher benefit for me. |

@XperiaJunkie
Yeah, and metal chassis would be a nice change.
@xperiazultra
If you want to buy the latest and greatest flag phablet soon then i would check out Xiaomi Mi Note Pro or wait for HTC "hima ultra". both are newer then note 4 and are touchwiz free . sony ultra is not coming any time soon.

I can wait for note 5. Sony's strategy does not make sense. No phablets. Flagship and compact choice is a little radical. I mean they have similar customers. Anyways might buy an ip6 plus and if an Ultra comes out i might sell it. But the choices Sony make in the mobile division are rather strange. |

Sure SteadyShot works well in video (at the expense of field of view), but video isn't everything. OIS, even if its 2-axis, will make low-light photography so much better. You can have slower shutter speeds, meaning keeping ISO lower and thus reducing digital noise. If other smartphone companies can do it, why not Sony?
SteadyShot being "good enough", or even "better than the competition isn't the point. With OIS it could be even better. |

I agree with @-XYZ, SteadyShoot proved it's very good with videos, but with still images.. there's better solutions specially when in low light, long exposure or while shooting very quick. I feel the OIS is the best option here for still images...
