8.8 is hot new figure today.
IDC could not have factored that in. |

@Platia1 Wait Bro... Wait... It's for good... I hope they wouldn't have got numbers from Sony... If they had released that info abt Sony that day itself, we would've been 1 in 10... Now it's show time... Now every mobile website will come up with news & put Sony officially no.3 b4 RIM... Every1 will know how fast Sony's goin up...We might not have achieved something bigger like Sammy or "suing fruit"... But it's jus the beginning...

And how are IDC so wrong :-/
Or do they not have correct information for Sony?
It's not that IDC got it wrong, seems like Sony didn't give out any data to IDC as those are all official figures from the vendors and not IDC's estimates.
Also someone please tip Xperia Blog about this news so other major sites like PhoneArena, GSMArena can post news about Sony becoming No.3 smartphone vendor

It's kind of sad that limited news sites reported Sony Mobile's growth. Moreover, those who reported it failed to compare the 8.8 million figure with other companies. :'(

Edit: I actually tipped PA, but they left out the top 3 part. Somebody, go spread the top 3 news lol.

Can anyone tell me where it says 8.8 million units, I can't find it in the financial report myself.
EDIT: Ahh my bad, I was looking at the ugly PDF rather than the funky file on the front page.

Its in top 3 but with a huge gap from 1 and 2. From 3 onwards, every manufacturer is pretty close by. So these figures could change very well the next quarter. I hope they do even well to actually be able to close that gap and hopefully along with that, they offer better and faster support..

I know. But the point is last year Sony Ericsson was where ? No.8 or 9 ? So from the bottom to climb up to No.3 so soon is quite a big achievement in just 1 year. Hopefully by the end of next year Sony can close the gap with Apple and maybe overtake Apple by end 2015. |

Esato can issue it's own press releases.
Ask laffen to report that Sony Mobile was the 3rd biggest smartphone vendor in Q3, overtaking RIM. Google News will soon pick it up, then other sites will too.
edit: In fact, I'll see if I can do it myself. I have the software.
