Hm. Tried running SEUS, but it's after a driver it can't find "SEMCBOOT download" it's called. Bah!
EDIT: Had to extract some drivers held in zips. Works now - no update though

"Transition between portrait and landscape mode is a bit slow"
my experience is that the phone has to be held straight upright for it to go immediately into landscape (and vicer versa),but if it is not straight upright but tilted backwards so the screen is towards the sky there is a lag and the more the degree of tilt,the greater the lag. |

It looks like O2 have kept the flash themes. Is that correct? Normally they disable them

I'm not sure I'm clear on this "flash themes" concept.
I assume you're talking about the "non-standard" ones, like the ones that were on the W810i as well? If so, then yes, they are there (though there's only one)
Also nice to see a fellow Dorseteer on here! (jcwhite_uk)

@Ricky
THANKS a million for posting that screenshot I requested. I thought it was just the simulator ... glad it wasn't. Then it looks like SE will plan on using the firmware in an upcoming phone that "MAY" support WLAN - which is perfect. No telling when or IF this will happen.
* Ricky my suggestion for update hoping that a generic firmware will be available was due to SE's firm stance on not allowing branding for this K850i I'm quite surprised actually that Vodafone & O2 where able to along with Orange.
@Ricky & SE-NAZ; might I suggest you guys start a new thread for ...
Tips & Tricks K850i please?

Hm.
My TrackID isn't working anymore.
Any time I try and ID a track I get a message saying "Bookmarked Results are currently not supported in TrackID"
That sucks.

well, brought the K850i just to prove my initial suspicions wrong. and 2moro im taking it back. here goes:
PROS:
looks amazing design wise, very slick (i got the green one)
nice size display
CONS:
- regardless of actual dimensions, it feels WAY to chunky for my liking, when i hold k810 now it feels slim in comparison.
- just like i thought, the d-pad and the buttons inside it (2,5) have already proved awkward. pressed the 2,5 buttons when using d-pad, and vice versa. also occansionally pressed the centre softkey wen pressin up on the d-pad
- all the buttons are WAY too stiff to press, including the d-pad. unlike on the t650i where the buttons required the perfect amount of pressure to press them.
- the buttons on the bottom row are awkward 2 reach when holding phone
- found the softkeys crap to use (altho nice idea). reason i didnt like it is cos i cant get my head round having to move up 2 confirm actions, rather then having a centre key like se's have always had. makes navigation a not-very-ergonomic experiance.
- also the softkeys (as with all touch keys ive found) tends to occasionally freeze/lag, very annoying
- all in all the keypad/button layout is ridiculously un-ergonomic (in my opinion). every phone that i can think of that has a d-pad/joystick has the enter key in the middle, all se's have been like this since i can remember. why did they have 2 move the select/enter key to a different place making it really annoying having 2 move ur thumbs so much 2 confirm actions.
- on to the camera, it may just be my phone but the flash only flashes once, when its on auto. unlike k800 where it flashes a few times. this has resulted in very dark pics in low light. wots the point in having a flash then. not impressed by low light pics, completly diff compared 2 k810 (and i no all bout settings, they are all correct).
- when pressing the d-pad UP, either the centre softkey will get pressed if u do it quick, or maybe the no 2 key. again back to the ergonomics.
- really dont like not having file explorer
- pre-loaded themes are horrible apart from one. and even that isnt nice. look at the themes on the t650, brilliant.
- apart from the camera and hsdpa, it is no more advanced then k800/k810, which is shameful considering how much time se have had on it. menu once again is the same ol same ol.
im sure there are other gripes i have with it but thats all i can remember for now. shame as it really is one of the nicest looking phones on the market at the moment. but they have really screwed up the ergonomics of this handset.
im sure most of u will be 2 excited or love se so much that u'll be oblivious to the above, or wont accept it or disagree or wotever. but i am certain that many ppl will agree with a lot of the problems ive posted above, once they get over the excitment of having a phone theyve drooled over for the last 3 months.
as i said the phone is being returned 2moro, possibly get the w910 instead which has also now been released. |
