Apparently at 1.30PM (GMT) today, O2 are announcing a 16GB iPhone, nothing different to the iPhones out there now, except the increase in disk space. DOn't know how true it is, read this info over at engadget. |

"There's been plenty of conjecture (pictured) about a 16GB iPhone -- and its mysterious absence from the initial lineup -- ever since the 16GB iPod touch graced us all with its minuscule presence, but things are starting to look up. We just got a pair of tips purporting inside AT&T info that both point to the 16GB iPhone showing up shortly. One person spotted the phone in AT&T Wireless inventory, listed as not in stock, while the other tipster was fairly certain about a release this Tuesday or the next one. Obviously this is all hearsay at the moment, so don't go hawking that 8 gigger just yet, but we'll see if Apple's going to serve us up a Papa Bear-sized portion of gigabytes soon enough.
Update: We just received word from multiple sources that the O2 staff has been notified of the 16GB iPhone launch at 1:30pm UK time. Price: £329. That will likely translate to $599 in the US like the original 8GB iPhone."

ok, I've gone and done it. I'll have an iphone on monday but I have just realised that I don't know the first thing about it. its actually my first Apple product, ever! Its 1.1.2, jailbreaked and I'll be using a sim thingy that lets me use any sim.
I've scanned through this and a few other threads bt I still feel a bit lost, so if someone can give me a some knowledge it would be appreciated.
1. I understand that I can't use some features if I don't activate it. is that right? should I activate it? will that lock me into anything I don't want?
2. What must I not do if I don't want to brick it?
3. I gather there are issues with 1.1.3 firmware but as a general question, can I upgrade the phone in future?
4. is Itunes the only way to get music and videos onto the phone?
5. can I use my existing music base which is mostly wma?
6. I haven't figured out if it comes with anything to let me sync my contacts etc from outlook?
7. any other basics I should know to get me started?
btw, I'm running on pc, of course
I really do feel like a real beginner!

I knew you would eventually, not sure how many i can answer for you but i'm pretty sure that you should be able to use all features on 1.1.2 if it is jailbroken, when i had a USA one i could still use youtube etc etc.
As for wma i highly doubt it just MP3 and MP4 for video i think, take a look at these websites they should help you;

Specifications are here and there are video tutorials too!

thanks, so you're saying I dont need to activate it?
I just remembered that I think itunes can convert wma to mp3 but maybe its time to re-rip all my cd's again

Well if it is jailbroken then activation should have been bypassed, i'm not to sure how it works now and what developments there have been as you may know that i fried my USA one and now have one on o2. Hope you like it, there are plenty of websites out there to help and numerous videos on youtube, will dig some links out for you.

yeah, I was going through youtube earlier, there heaps of useful stuff.
I just want to try and give the iphone a good chance before I decide if I like it or not, and to be honest I was looking around for something new but nothing really interests me lately, though I am waiting for the w890 which seems to be taking an age to become available
anyway, thanks for any useful links. I've also picked up a few in the threads I've read.

I love it personally but i do miss certain features but with future updates they should be rectified, data is a dream to use with the safari browser and your bound to have more fun the me as i can't add the installer app. Just not willing to take another risk and ruin it.

Whatever you do, DO NOT update or restore your iPhone on iTunes! It won't brick it, but it will reset it so it requires activation again. If you get told of an update, click cancel, selecting 'do not ask again in future'.
Enjoy your iPhone!
