I'm sorry, but I have to tell you that a QVGA screen at that size is not pixellated. Unless you consider a 176x220 screen pixelated when it's 1.8" big. QVGA screen at 2.4" has a higher pixel density than a 176x220 screen which is 1.8" big.
And even Sony's T series have QVGA 3" screens.

WHAT?

K here is an example of a screen with dots.

.............
.............
.............
.............

Now the size doesn't matter its the amount of PIXEL for that screen. Say for example its 2inches in diameter. Now increase it to 3 inches and with the SAME pixels & same resolution ... we'll SEE a difference. Look at all those PPC-PC 2.8"/2.6" screen devices from HTC you'll SEE the icons are "granulated" because not the quality of the screen itself but PIXEL Density is low.

ie.

. . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . .

This is why APPLE was hyping 200 pixels PER square inch in their first phone. (I refrain from saying its name . Name me another screen that has that kind of density on a smartphone?

I think pixel density plays THE most important role in screen resolution & its viewable quality to the naked eye.

Just a suggestion:

Could the lens protection shutter be an actual shutter mechanisme, that does both: Protect the lens and determine the aperture and shutter speed.

"There is also a QCIF video
call camera.Accessing video call mode via the main menu activates the QCIF video call camera."

Can anybody explain me this please? I thought K850's Video Camera was VGA or QVGA at least!

i spooked with a friend (we went to the same University) who works on Sonyericsson in Linköping (Sweden). i asked about several things (k850i of course).
the answer i got about the lens cover was, that they made the lens cover like this, just because the material is really thin (its thinner then on a ordinary camera). the "glass" is like extra protection.
if SE had choose to not put the "glass" in front of the lens cover, they had to make the lens cover more robust (thicker), and that was not the purpose.

he also told me that top-engineers have been testing and working with this lens-cover for many months. he said that it was no need to worry (he he), the "glass" will not be scratched so easy.

edit. if you have any "special" question about k850i, i can ask them for you, (depends of course, if he is available when i call him ).

Video call camera is the front camera for video calls. The QVGA camera is the main one on the back.

I wouldnt get too hung up on the prices. They often drop down fast.

Eg N95 was £600 sim free at launch and now it is around £480.

N93 was around £540 at launch and now is £390.

Unless your getting it on a contract make sure you wait it out for the forst month or so.

if anyone bothered to goto SEs sites that list the features of the phone, they would have read that the galss is indeed scratch resistant ... i for one am HAPPY they put it there, i hate these johnny come latelys.

go nice read!

stop asking the same questions over and over, read through the thread before you ask a question that was answered in the tech specs ...

Where you got this ridiculous price?? I bought mine a few days after it was launched and it was SGD1148 / 550euro / 380 pound. And this is inclusive of 5% gst/vat.

Nokia stated that retail price of N95 is 550 euro and that's the price which the phone can be bought. Your £600 price tag for N95 is just retailer profiteering. SE germany stated price of K850 is 599 euro. So after profiteering by retailer K850 may be 800euro / £550 when launched!!!!

This is not main issue. With exposed glass, you can easily smudge it with finger prints/dust. So everytime you take pict, you have to wipe the glass lens. Dont you think this is stupid design?

i say it one more time.

"he also told me that top-engineers have been testing and working with this lens-cover for many months.............................................."

it also counts fingerprints, (or do you think that SE engineers missed that "small" part) ?
of course it dosent deteriorate the pic quality if you have some "ordinary" prints.........(maybe if you have been working with some oily car-engine before). he he

@plankgatan

sorry this is probably a repeat of a few questions before but everyone here seems so hyped up about this lens glass that they've been ignored so i'm trying again...

1. what is the round fixture at the top left hand corner of the phone-side of the k850?

2. why are they 3 yellow dots inside the red eye reduction led? (the k800 only had one) for super red eye reduction??

3. how does video light work in a dark situation?

4. do both memory cards fit into the same slot? meaning only one type can be slotted in and used at any one time?

thanks very much.

did anyone notice that the portrait mirror is gone????

Most likely a light sensor. Possible application could be to automatically adjust back light brightness according to environment (Under sun = bright, in door = medium, pitch black = low)

2. why are they 3 yellow dots inside the red eye reduction led? (the k800 only had one) for super red eye reduction??

No idea. For all we know, red + green + blue = white? red + a little of green = amber?

3. how does video light work in a dark situation?

If what I mentioned about the 3 dots is true, that's how it'll work. If that's not true, no idea.

4. do both memory cards fit into the same slot? meaning only one type can be slotted in and used at any one time?

Yes, spot on. You can't have 4gb + 4gb = 8gb. 2 choices, choose one.

thanks very much.

You're welcomed =)

Don't need that, the entire camera side is glossy and shiny! =P... jk

Glad for you. In Sweden you will have hard time to find it under 630 EUR (25% VAT included). Just imagine what the initial cost was when it was released.
