Got something totally different planned for tomorrow. Instead of the usual curry/roast/pudding we're having a huge get-together with friends and neighbours for a braai. Been trying to find thornwood for the braaifire, makes the best coals for slow cooking. Been preparing an outside area for the gathering, got hold of these huge logs which serve as seats. These things are enormous, only 1 can fit into the car's boot, another onto the backseat. All in all it promises to be something different.

@ Kryptik,
Sounds great. I prefer a braai over a tradtional Christmas meal anyday.
Miss the thornwood for braaing here;it's all the usual coals and stuff in the UK.
We've actually got clear blue skies on this otherwise typical Winter's day here today.
We've also got to go round to friends tonight in Hammersmith, west London, but we'll be taking the tube...there's absolutely no ways I'm gonna drive the Wanqmobile through central London and be delayed/trapped in the Christmas eve traffic.
I managed to get one of the last 'refurbished' Nokia 3230's off O2's website a few days ago. It cost just £59.99.
With refurbished handsets, it would mean handsets that have been returned to O2 by customers within 14 days of purchase, who have then changed the handset for a different model. You are allowed to do this as long as the phone is still in new condition.
Because the phone is thus not brand new as such any more, these phones are then checked over by the networks' technicians, unlocked and factory settings etc re-done and everything re-checked. They are then sold as 'refurbished handsets.'
I also managed to get an Orange SPV c550 (Windows,Bluetooth,1.3mp,expandable memory, etc.)for £99 (approx R1120) from Orange's website. What excellent value for money! Will try do a mini-review of the phone once the festivites have subsided somewhat.
So then, this collection of phones...I often sell the phones on to friends back home once I find a better deal and get my money back or make a little profit,so Mrs A doesn't mind too much because of this.
At the moment I thus have the following set-up:
1. the P900 as a primary,using O2's fantastic 'genie' online PAYG.
2. the VS6 has the Mobile World sim for when we phone home, sister in law in Canada, or need to phone other UK networks during peak times, once I've used up the genie sim's 100 minutes a month allowance...
3. the 3230 which now has the T-Mobile 'Mate's Rates' sim in,which Mrs A and I use to phone each other with;has a flat rate of a measly 5p a minute to another T-Mobile user.
4. Orange SPV c550 for all the Orange freebies like Orange Wednesdays, evening texts, etc.
5. the 7600 for maximising Vodafone's 'Stop the Clock' off-peak promotion, which Mrs. A uses to good effect when phoning her sister at night.(pay for the first 3 minutes and speak an additional 57 min. gratis.)
Obviously I could just take out all the sims and just use one or two phones, but as long as I make a little money on each of the phones when I move them on, I'll stick to my numerous toys.
I'm enjoying the S60 handset very much..all the free stuff readily available for it is making my dabbling with the Dark Side's smartphones very, very appealing...
By the way, this hasty pic was taken with the 3230 inside the local supermarket..check this price of this el cheapo DVD recorder:

Found the elusive thornwood, bought enough to roast a herd of elephant. Nice collection there, Wanqsta, your reasons for owning them make perfect sense as well. Nice buy on that SPV, btw.

@ Kryptik,
Eish, wouldn't mind we were braaing tomorrow, complete with boerie rolls, sosaties,et al....oh well, I can't have the best of both worlds...
The SPV c550 is indeed a lot of phone for the money.
The 'home'/standby screen is very customisable, but I'm still getting used to the UI as such. Not the easiest to scroll with either.
The fantastically detailed games available for Windows smartphones from places like Handango is another reason why I decided to get this handset.

The SPV c550 also comes with the cables to connect directly to your tv.

The Mrs has been making sure we don't have more than the usual quota of red meat, so i've stocked up on zero-fat meat like kudu and springbok. The one thing that's a must is potbread, the braai wouldn't be complete without it. Do you guys get mealies on the cob over there, Wanqa?

@da wanqsta: What sort of specs does that DVD recorder boast? Just over R700 sounds ridiculous.

@ Kryptik,
Miiiiieeeeellliiieesss!!!!
Yes you can get them occasionally at the local supermarket and usually at the other markets too.The canned variety is in far greater prominence, but not the creamy sweetcorn like in SA.
Talking of all things 'nca', do you ever have 'mosbolletjies?'

@ da brixsta,
Didn't take note of the specs too much as I recently got the Panasonic DVD recorder, but will find out when we go again early next week. It's a Region 2 DVD recorder,so it'll work in SA too... |

Guys, does anybody know the code to be entered to transfer credit from one Vodacom number to another? I've been holding for a consultant for the past 20min, need to transfer credit to my nephew's phone.

And a Merry Christmas to you too, Kryptik.
Enjoy that braai....you could always extend the duration of the braai/festivities by using some of those logs that you collected as seats/benches as further kindling...

Probably the best Xmas in ages, weather's been great, neighbours behaved themselves, all in all a lekker day. That great South African tradition, the after-lunch nap, was simply too hard to resist today ;-)

@ da brixsta,
Saw this post-Christmas promotion on O2's website and just look at this PAYG deal:
£129.99 gets you a:
1. NEC 411i cellphone on O2 PAYG with 1.3mp camera and Bluetooth,
2. Bluetooth headset and....would you believe this....
3. a Bush DVD recorder!!!!!!!
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/[....]=consumer:NEC:411i:IMODE:GROUP
How's that for approximately R1500?
