@dimwit27: please excuse me for asking, are you in anyway associated with semico or se? I mean i just can't give my imei and official receipt to someone i'm not familiar with. I hope you understand. I'm very grateful for your concern, thanks!

How to be a preferred VIP?

How does a customer become a ‘preferred VIP’? Is there such a thing? Do I have to apply for a membership to become one? Do I have to buy an expensive phone or several expensive ones? Can I be a preferred VIP just by buying several expensive phones even without a membership? I know I am a customer and I know I am not a preferred VIP or a VIP or even a preferred customer (well not just me really but also the other people there…. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me layout the story…

I went to this Semicon branch in the morning to have my phone’s firmware and was told that all my data would be erased. It was ok, was expected, I read it from different posts that Semicon don’t do a backup/restore service. Then I was told to return an hour after much to my surprise because the last time I tried to have my firmware upgraded they told me to return 2-3 hours. I was probably the first person to have the firmware upgraded that day so I was happy (=

When I went back and took a number, there was already a customer being accommodated by the service rep. I wasn’t sure then what the customer’s problem is with his phone because he was fiddling between two (expensive) phones. Apparently, he was trying to copy the contacts from one phone to the other. Then someone from the shop helped out to copy the contacts. Very nice of them don’t you think? That someone was probably a supervisor or something because I know he wasn’t a service rep but he was accommodating enough to go beyond the call of duty for this customer.

Anyway, another customer arrives holding the same type of phone as the aforementioned but the service rep is still going through some details (very commendable – I’m sure nothing can get by her) and the supervisor was busy chitchatting with the customer. I then learned that the customer wanted to have the firmware of the second phone updated too (after the first one was updated) and after the supervisor told that it might take 2-3 hours to complete the upgrade the customer then mentioned that they’ll be going home very late again (don’t you think the supervisor’s wasting the customer’s time through idle chit-chat when he could have been on his way doing his business for the day and the phone already given to the tech for upgrading?) By this time, the customer after me was asking if someone is available to accommodate her. Maybe she wanted her firmware upgraded too?

After going through several more details and the phone’s almost ready to be handed to the techie for upgrading, the supervisor offered to backup some of the software installed by the customer. Like wow! The extra service the customer’s getting is really something (=

Finally, it was my turn and didn’t take that long to hand my phone back. After signing off the forms I made some tests and they accommodated the next customer who apparently just wanted to know if they could change the language in the phone but unfortunately her specific phone model limits what language can be installed.

Oh yes by the time I left the store, they were still busy copying the extra software installed by the first customer in his second phone (= I call that the preferred VIP treatment
