Indeed.. I am impressed as well. So far these two: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6573&idPhone2=6077
are leading the way when it comes to size for me. I don't think the iPhone 6 could compete to be honest.. it will be much taller : (
Sony will probably get very close with the compact..
The only thing that worries me is heat management.. there isn't much room in there to cool the chips off, but I am sure they've done their testing.

@Abhi
We'll see which one sells better...
The HW differences are clear... but that's not all.
The Alpha is the first device which come very close to the iPhone.
I'm very excited. Samsung made the first step. Sony and compact is not compact! It's to thick and bulky. I prefer a bit longer and thinner...
Still dreaming of a Z Ultra mini edition.

Regarding the alpha
I will never ever buy a phone with Exynos SoC again, and there's a 95% chance that I will never buy a Samsung again
Design is indeed better than all other Samsung phones, but hell we already have much better designs by Sony and even HTC long time ago !!

I hope Galaxy Alpha manages to cross even 5-6 hrs on that paltry 1860 mAh battery (serious side effect of anaroxeic body) and such a heavy battery sucking Exynos processor.
Good luck on that |

The thinness doesn't mean a thing. The battery capacity is shit compared to Z3c |

A phone being to thin and light to me anyway makes the device seem fragile I prefer my phone to have a bit of weight to it personally I feel it adds to the quality feel of a phone and the thickness as long as it isn't to thick is more than acceptable if it means other features won't be compromised.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

why are they using those cutouts on top like on iphone, if the back is not metal, can't they just place antennas there? |

Now it's pretty much clear, objectively in general, z3c>rest. aside of that there is personal preference.
there is nothing in alpha that would make me choose it over z3c. i would not choose a phone just because its slimmer and i don't like heart rate and fingerprint scanner silly gimmicks. generally there is no better compact flag then z3c in android world it seems. actually z1c is still z3c toughest rival. sony is just about to outdo themselves. |

Any advantages the z3c will have over the samsung alpha spec wise will mean nothing when you factor in samsung's marketing budget.
Ha wonder if apple will sue samsung for trying to copy another design.

at the Z3C vs Alpha comparisons, I doubt Samsung are even concerned about Sony and it's products, they have much bigger problems like the Chinese juggernauts and Apple, you know, companies that are mostly in the top 5 in terms of smartphone units sold?
The Alpha is a phone meant to offer a direct alternative to the iPhone 6 16GB, looking at the pricing and how Apple generally price their iPhones, also looking at the fact that the Alpha has no MicroSD slot, smaller battery for a slimmer profile, and no IP certification, Samsung are trying to take a great opportunity and directly challenge the upcoming iPhone.
The Z3C will have no real competitor, much like the Z1C, the other OEMS seem to have looked at it and not taken it seriously. Are there any sales numbers on the Z1C?
It would be interesting as could explain why other manufacturers who have plenty of resources haven't even bothered to make a Z1C competitor.

I want to declare some points and everyone free to agree or not
1) I feel that sony out from the 500 shield is a positive thing for them not a negative
2) regards the Xperia future lineup and with the Z3 both the regular and the compact dimensions I feel that generation by generation we are going towards 100% screen ratio
3) regards why SD801 in Z3 I think this question is already also answered and I do believe it's the perfect choice than using the SD805
4) regarding the Samsung alpha I know that Samsung pay on advertising and marketing more than they spend on the R&D but as amirprog said the real competitor to Z3 compact is the Z1 compact
5) it will be wise from Sony now to not stop manufacturing and selling of the Z1 compact and sell it with less prices as what apple did before I am sure they will sell millions if so
6) regarding the Z3 I really hope that it becomes reality because they really need it and also to save my credit
