That's precisely the point though isn't it.
Those old feature phones would last days, if not, weeks on a single charge. Therefore Xenon would be no problem. These newer smartphones barely last 10-12 hours, so xenon wouldn't really help with that matter.
In any case, OEM's need to invest in new battery technology more than anything. After the Lithium-Ion/Lithium-Polymer, that whole segment of the market has kind of....stagnated. | |

If that was indeed the problem with xenon, they would increase the capacity, unfortunately, nowadays, majority of people are focusing on cpu, ,gpu, screen size and slimness. So i doubt many manufacturers are willing to put it. Expecially sony, because that will further decline the sales of their stand alone camera. Maybe when they are in a better position they might do it? Also, I think nokia might put a xenon with the next pureview+wp8 phone, or maybe samsung too. Presently they are I think the only manufacturer listening to what consumers are really demanding and giving them(thats why they are selling so well). So if the demand is there they will provide it.
Also regarding all the 2013 rumours, will sony do anything drastic to improve their ui? Like giving more features? To me, while their ui looks good, it still lacks many features offered by others. I know Sony makes great hardware, but going forward, they need to invest heavily in the software department to really differentiate themselves. At present even the new start ups can put in s4 pro for next year and call it a day...

I don't really think that is the case. Only really Nokia would compromise on the thickness of their phone to cram in a Xenon flash (and that monolithic Pureview 41Mpx sensor/lens module). Samsung will probably further optimise their tech, but at this stage, it looks like they're focused on the raw compute performance and how slim the handset is (and indeed how massive the screen is). This is shown by the fact that they still use TouchWiz, which is a total abomination of an Android skin. If they knew what their (tech-savvy) customers wanted, they'd probably have gone stock a long time ago, but they have their own agenda with Tizen anyway so....

The reason I like Sony's UI is because its very tastefull and light. It doesn't stampede you with far too much crap (ahem TouchWiz), it just sits on top of whatever Android Version the phone is running and nothing more. Maybe a few extra things like Walkman and Album (which are genuine improvements over Stock offerings), but little else.
That and it actually resembles the Android UI in some way rather than completely eclipsing it. THAT alongside the fact that Sony actively contributes code to AOSP, is probably why JBQ opted to pull the Xperia S into the AOSP project.

Still don't agree with you  Old phones lasted longer but with smaller battery. This is because phones nowadays require more power (mainly the big, high resolution, screens). Energy demand for a xenon today wouldn't be higher than, say, 2007, but today you'd have twice (just a rough estimate since I don't recall the battery capacity of my old phones) the battery capacity to help power it. Sure, the phone would require recharging in 10-12 (or any number of) hours, but that would still mainly be due to screen power consumption and not the occasional xenon powered photo.
Anyhow, don't know if discussing this further is of interest... just give me xenon! |

Well, for indoor/night shots at 1-3 meter distance (say, at a bar), my new phones have never been able to beat the quality of my old C905. |

I'm just dreaming, a concept of an back cover with extended battery, that also serves as an optical zoom and as slot up Xenon flash... well it might have a full USB port also

Well, for indoor/night shots at 1-3 meter distance (say, at a bar), my new phones have never been able to beat the quality of my old C905.
I never liked the quality of my old C905's pictures, with or without the flash. It was ridiculously grainy with the flash off and it always overexposed with the flash on. |

How much will it cost to buy ST-E ??
I hope sony buys it, but sony has already done lot of shopping lately. can they buy this now?

Sony already spent billions of USD for purchasing Geikai, Olympus's Stake, EMI in just a very short period
Even S&P downgraded their credit rating, I doubt that Sony will go further on purchasing ST-Ericson
Also, ST-Ericson is on a losing track, they can't compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon, I don't think Sony buying ST-Ericson anytime soon
It's better for Sony to start another Joint Venture with ST-Ericson on making CPU chips, this will help them to stop rely on Qualcomm and differentiate their offering, without high cost | |
