This is not right, IF ALL retail units have 384MB Ram confirmed I wonder what Killmaster9 has been sold?
If he bought it from a retail store, the poor guy needs to take it back right now and ask for his cash back it would seem he has been sold a Prototype which is fraud.
I suggest anyone buying one of these things makes it a condition of sale that they are buying only on the basis that the unit they will receive is equipped with 384 MB or they will return it in exchange for a 100% refund.
I am definitely NOT getting one of these until I am certain all the proto units floating around in the "grey" market have been sold on, and I have actually had one in my hand for a good long test plus I don’t have an upgrade until November
It does raise the question, is WM so memory hungry that having 384Mb of RAM is critical? or is it just gadget freaks wanting the max for max sake?
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

@Nitro fan It is not possible to by the X1 in a regular retail store until 10/10 (at least not in Sweden). So hopefully they included 384MB to the ones in store on friday.

yeah, it seems the guy I spoke to at mphone last night didn't have a clue as they don't actually have stock after all. I checked again this morning and like everyone else, they expect them on Friday

No one who has the xperia now will have the full retail one, They still being made as we speak (type), That why S.E. put back retail version mid October,
Just rang my source, He still wont tell me about the firmware though,
So the webcast and promos 256MB units,
All I can say is that all the reviews are of 256MB and 128Mb version
no 384Mb have been reviewed, And if anyone tells you otherwise tell them to post a pic of the free memory page,.......I can guarantee you they will be making a very sneaky slow exit towards the fire escape, 191Mb is all i know will be available after boot, now im waiting to see if this is true but more than likekly it is the case

Got my retail X1 today, and can report first impressions is that the hardware is really nice, very good quality. (you have heard that before).
Is there a memory card supplied with the retail version? If so, what capacity is it?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Killmaster9
Where did you buy this unit from, and was it sold to you as a genuine " Retail Unit"?

X1i h.264 encoding is 15fps.
X1a doesn't encode h.264 at all.
X1a doesn't have H264 at all? So it only has H263?? I don't mind if it's only QVGA or even 15fps, but H263 is appalling quality.

Hi all!
I will answer many of the previous questions. This is a retail version. We got 2 to the store yesterday. And yes, we can't sell it before the 10th. But hey, I don't sell one to myself...
And yes, it is 256 Mb of RAM. This is a retail version!

I don't really think it's that big deal, especially if it has 191MB on boot up.
That's pretty good available ram for running programs. None of that needs to be used for storage (not with 400MB internal and memory card)

Well that rather shoots the "all retail units will have 384MB of RAM" story down in flames!
I am not so sure ANYONE really knows what the true story is but one is is fer certain you cannot rely upon to tell the whole truth!
Wait and see before you rush out and buy in haste!
But I ask the question again, is WM so memory hungry that having 384Mb of RAM is critical? or is it just gadget freaks wanting the max for max sake?

storage and ram are completely different. you can't 'store' anything in ram so having 400mb or even 1gb storage prebuilt is irrelevant!
killmaster are you sure they are retail units as to get only 2 units for sale is a little odd?! seems the confusion isn;t going to end till retail date! |

Please bear in mind that the so called retail boxes contain prototypes,
I have seen 3 retail boxes and even one with a 128mb version I didnt buy then, Just the two boxes you have may look official but are infact protoypes in retail boxes,

The 384mb RAM always sounded strange - a non standard amount (RAM usually doubles, so 128 -> 256 -> 512), and really a lot just to run WinMo 6.1. The Tytn II runs 6.1 very well on 128mb, and that was considered generous when it was released a year ago. Perhaps twice that is needed for the Panels, but surely not three times?
Having said all that, the amount of disinformation being spread on the subject is a worry with a lot of "sources" quoting it as fact. It's a shame it's still unclear even as "retail" versions are cropping up.

Just a Guess but I think you might find killmaster meant "they were delivered to his shop" Rather than 2 were delivered

I interpret 'We got 2 to the store yesterday' as they received 2 units to their store! |
